just posted this on MCA but i thought i'd post here too, just joined up last night

hey guys, wondering if i can get some advice
manual 2001 CE2 MR lancer is my ride
which is the 4G93 SOHC
in that last month and a bit i've noticed that occasionally when i take off (foot to the floor or not) my baby just has no power at all until about 2000 revs, it just crawls away then pulls when it gets up, i can really hear the change due to my muffler
it has happend both in first gear (going from stand still) and second (pulling through corners), i've never noticed it if i gun it when while driving
hope to hear from you guys
thanks in advance

its called powerband
i dunno about the 1.8's but in 1.5's thats the feeling u get, nothing till 2 maybe 2.5k then a good pull then power drops off near 5k

unless its VERY slow i wouldnt say thats a problem,

contributing factors to piss weak performance are if ur exhaust is 2.5" or larger and if u have a pod filter sucking in hot air or having an auto, handbrake on...?
but if u cot some spare coin probably best to do a good service, change spark plugs if they are lookign *poo*, change leads if they are cracked, new oil and oil filter, blow out air filter

if u think its with somethign specific go speak to a mechanic or auto electrician about it

i thought it might be that (clutch slipping) aswell but i reckon it'd rev like *poo* if that were the case, the revs just steadily increase, doesn't matter how much throttle i put on when it happens

exhaust is stock except for my muffler (its second hand thing my mate's uncle had lying around his shop, don't actually know much about it)

the powerband explanation doesn't really make sense because most of the time it pulls as hard as normal

well then u just have a sometimes lemon, i dont kno why but i would just do a full check of stuff and if problem persists and gets bad see a mechanic
lots of *poo* can be wrong ur timing could be off or have a leak or soemthing

it was last serviced on the 16th of feb :(
oh well, thanks heaps guys :) you were really quicky to respond, i think i'm gonna like this forum

Taking off at 2k, wont make your wheels spin unless you got no tread.
Does it run rough when idling at first start up/Cold?
Check you intake for leaks, your injectors to see if there leaking.
How long has it been since your changed the fuel filter? ever? might be f'cked

I had this exact problem :D. It's your coil packs, get them changed and trust me your 'baby' will fly off the line. usually cost 250.00 to repair

you take off at like 1k rev's ina manual? i take off at 1600-2000 revs every start... you need to rev it to get it to go... otherwise yes, you WILL go along like a slug till you hit about 2k revs...

or your clutch is slipping. mates supra has a slipping clutch... horrible haha!

Ah or maybe check your throttle cable is adjusted properly. Or cable condition for any tears in the outer sledding. If it's too loose you won't get anything off the line until the cable takes up. You need two people to check one in the car foot to the floor and one to check the positionof the cable on the throttle it shouldbe fully open against it's stop.

engine was misfiring
spark plugs, ignition leads and ignition coils were all replaced and the car is now an absolute dream to drive :)
thanks all
