Jerking in 1996 1.8L cc manual lancer when cruising

Hi guys, I have an old 1996 lancer in the title that jerks when cruising. The odometer is current on 210 000kms, under hard acceleration and quick gear shifting the jerking is unnoticeable but for example when cruising in a certain gear say going the speed limit... The car would start to jerk for about 1-3 seconds at random times when cruising, this probably happens 1/3 days of driving. So I have strong suspicion that it's either the spark plug or the cables, I believe the spark plugs are not the issue as I believe they have recently been change, bought the car about a year ago and the guy was a mechanic. So at the moment I believe it is the spark plug cable. What are your suggestions?

Remember only happens in the gear once clutch is out so I don't believe this is a clutch or transmission issue but please feel free to state if you believe so as I really do want to solve this problem.

Cheers in advance!

Could be a number of things

Spark plug gaps need setting
Spark leaks are faulty
Dizzy points need replacing
Fuel filter
If its a manual, it could even be your clutch

Hmmm okay, I'll make sure to take note of that. It's a problem I can live it it's just I'd rather it ride smoothly

I can't help but I lol'd when I read the title - I thought that jerking while driving would be illegal.

Reminds me of something Hens has posted about throttle position switch but not sure if it's related - could throttle be dodgy in some way? When stationary and revving is it smooth? Injectors?

also check tps could be hunting at certain throttle positions (my 1.8t would hunt at part throttle at 2k rpm) only ever did this out of gear as i knew the issue immediately so never drove it while this happened. but as mike said check plugs and their gaps leads and even the dizzy I've heard of quite a few dieing latly

Pull the plugs before you drive it next. see how fked they are for starters.

Could you explain to me by pulling the plug?

TPS is throttle position sensor? is it related to the Ecu and it sure does sound like something that's co$tly?

Is there other threads that are similiar to mine if so please link them so I can have a read.

If you havnt touched your TPS then it should be fine, otherwise try puttin it in 1st gear with foot on the clutch, les the clutch coz a little till the rev drops down but not moving, if the revs hunt (1000rpm-2000rpm-1000rpm-2000rpm) then the TPS is rooted

Is it a jerk or vibration?

I recently had to replace the CV joints on my 93 Lancer, Basically there was a noticeable vibration, (almost jerkyness) but only under acceleration say at 80kph plus.

I was told it might be the clutch or even a balance problem for a wheel but then spoke to someone who said it's most likely warn CV joints.

FYI my 93 had done just over 240 000 km when they were replaced.
