Hi All,
Joined this Forum as I am looking to buy my first Lancer.
I was hoping to get the new 2016 GSR Sedan Manual. I am having trouble finding anywhere in Melbourne where the Manual is available to test drive.
I drove the Auto and did not seem to have much more grunt than the Manual base model.

Anyway Hello everyone!

Welcome to the forum's, plenty of info here to help with future mods, bought my first Lancer back in late 04 (we have 3 now), only trouble in last 12 yrs and 165,000 klms has been a battery and tail light bulb.

I just slightly confused, you said you wanted a test drive on the new 2016 GSR 2.4 manual but you can't find one, than you said you drove an auto lancer but it did not seem to have much more grunt than the manual base model?
So what was the manual base model you drove ?, or did you drive an older 2lt model and are comparing that to the 2.4auto, because the 2.4 GSR manual are pretty ballsy, especially when you do a few mods.

Thanks Wagonmaster.
Just to clarify my experiences so far
I test drove the 2016 Lance ES Sport (Manual) Which has the 2.0 engine. The dealer did not have the GSR in a manual to test drive. They did have the GSR in an Auto. I took it for a test drive, and found 2 oddities:
1. It was a lot quieter than the ES Sport
2. Did not seem to have much more power than the Sport
I am guessing this might be due to the auto controlling the revs and gear changing.

Money pressure is pushing me to the ES Sport
However the more fun ride (i assume) would be the GSR. Will need to find the GSR in a Manual version to test drive and then make a decision in early April on which way to go.

Yes you are right, the GSR manual would definitely be more fun + that new car feel is great, but like everything in life it passes.

Although the ES sport is good in its own right and with a few mods even better, either way would be good but you can only do what you can do with the $$'s available.

Maybe you could look at a demo or second hand low klms Lancer Ralliart or GSR manual if you can find one, the warranty available for near new cars under say 80,000 klms are nearly as good as you get new, so you should be able to get an aftermarket warranty to commence after the factory one runs out up to the full 5yr term and with the extra you save put towards some decent mods.

Either way i see a win win all round.

I bought a MY15 ES sport auto 11 months ago for $20,360 complete with extra 1 year warranty and all five scheduled services included free.
Love the car with one regret its noisy! Yokoharma tyres being the major contributor

Noise gave me something to play around with and have up to now sound deadened boot and engine bay with marked quieter running. Wheel wells are next.

If grunt is what your looking for then the GSR has to be your choice. With almost a quarter more engine capacity its got to be quicker.
With either choice first mod: RalliArt inlet snorkel, new $175. Include in price!!??
