How frequent do you change your oil?

I think this topic has been talked to death already. But just out of curiosity how often do you change your oil?

I don't see much of a hassle of changing the oil. I grab whatever is on half price semi 10W-40.. like $20 for 5L, stock up 1 or 2 at all times. Grab a cheap filter, SCA or Sakura. Not even a jack is necessary to change the oil, just a low profile cheap 4L oil bucket from super cheap is all I need.

For my peace of mind, I do at most 6 months or 5k km. Just because it's so easy and cheap insurance for my engine. Might be overkill, but when I have nothing to do.. my hands are itching to change the oil.

Keep in mind how you drive it aswell. If you mang it at the limi every gear and thrash it, you might need to change the oil way more after. But yeah. 5000kms it decent, also, worth buying some good oil and stocking up whenever on special,

Yep how you drive and also what oil you buy will determine your interval. To some extent I would say what engine matters to, eg I'm more inclined to change a small hard working motor's oil more often than a large motor that isn't stressed.

I always used a synthetic oil in the CJ but drove it hard, so did the oil changes every 7.5km/6months which was half the factory interval.

my last Holden V8, I just stuck to every 15k on a synthetic oil as it was largely doing highway kms. A previous V8 though I did at 7.5k intervals as it was mostly city driving.

Back to your lancer, doing it every 5k/6months mostly driving around town would be fair when using the cheap semi oils. Could easily stretch it to 10k/6months if mostly highway kms. If you were to use a synthetic oil then 10k/1year would be fine I think. If you want a more scientific answer then you could always get a used oil analysis done...

Ive been doing full synth and filter every 10k on my 200k 4g69 which i reckon is almost overdoing it.
My theory is, synth is cheap enoug these days, 10k is generous by oem standards, and the oil comes out pretty clean anyway

Funny you say that - I was doing 10k on the missus 2.4L and about 8-9k in, the fuel consumption would increase (1-3L/100km) and it got lethargic and felt “heavy”. Fresh oil, and it was back to normal - would shift itself into 4th gear/overdrive at 45kph.

All city driving though, I think we did 1 ACT and one QLD trip in it

Hmm. I havn't noticed that but I'll keep an eye on it. That would be cause for concern.
Im getting pretty consistantly about 450km to 37l depending on how much of a hurry ive been in.
