Hot Engine after Water Pump Replacement

Hey guys,

Just had the timing belt changed on my 99 CEII Lancer and the mechanic said that it'll be best to change the water pump also while the belts off, so I had him change that too for me.
Everything seemed to be working fine but I have a feeling the engine is getting a little hotter then it was before. I'm not sure if it's because the water pump needs time to wear in or something similar.
It just seems like it's taking longer to cool down then usual [ie. after a 20 min drive or so it might half the night to cool down] and today I took it to those automatic car washes and the dude there hosed it down before going in and there was steam coming off the bonnet. Whenever I used to clean it there wouldn't be any when I hosed it down.

The temp guage in the car goes up to normal temps so it's not overheating but yeah just feels hotter then usual...

any comments? guesses? ideas?

could just be ur mind, if the temp gauge says its at pretty much half way then it should be fine

if you have the money, and you think its that much of a big deal, take it back to the mechanic who did it

Is it over half way? if so i wonder if he has stuffed up the seal which would cause air to come in..

or it is the wrong water pump for your engine?

if its not over half way and not gradually climbing i wouldn't worrie

mine sits half way, never missed a beat. i think they are spose to sit bout halfway

Am not an expert by any means, but I would think that a good idea would be after a drive that gives it adequate time to warm up feel the temperature coming off the inlet and outlet hoses from the radiator. If they aren't feeling very hot then maybe it's a dodgey pump???

Mine sits just below half way. Since new the car has always sat half way.
At the moment it doesn't move from half way. Could just be a negative placebo effect......

The mechanic did have a problem getting the pump for the car. He ordered the one that was in it but the company delivered the wrong one but he had that sorted out.
I'll give it a few more runs and keep an eye on it. Will keep a look out for the things you guys have mentioned [ie. hoses heating up, etc]
Cheers guys.

Actually if the pump is not working then you might not be getting proper water flow through the heater core I would assume, might be worth turning the heater fully on and seeing if it's pumping out heat like normal?

just take it back n let your mechanic know,
your the one who drives it, so if it feels off to you then look into it definatley, ask the mech if its normal to feel little different,
im changing my belt this weekend, ill see if maybe it feels different just cause its new parts

If theres heat there will be steam, old mate at car wash might have got some cold water onto the radiator through front bar. If temp gauge is fine leave it.

Well I've given it a bit of a run here and there. Reached normal operating temps and it doesn't feel as hot as I thought it was.

Like said above, the dude probably sprayed the radiator or something. I'm also a little paranoid too because my old Prelude's radiator busted and steam was the first thing that I seen. So yeah first thing I thought off when I seen it was something was wrong.
Cheers all for the comments though. Still going to keep an eye on it but imo I don't think there's anything there to worry about.

On a plus note, I may have scored myself VRX/MR colour coded mirrors for the car :D
