Hello everyone! Question about CJ key replacement

Hi everyone! Wanted to say hello since my wife and I have just bought a '12 Lancer sedan in white. The Lancer turned out to be a welcome addition as it's cheaper to run, quite reliable and surprisingly good to drive. Here's a pic of our "new" car

And this used to be our daily

I don't know what the norm is here but I'm hoping it's OK to ask a question - I've done some searching and am at my wit's end, but want to see if anyone can lend a hand :)

We bought the car 2nd hand with only 1 key. Works perfectly but worried we'll lose it and have a pretty big door stop for a garage. From what I've read, I've got the following options:

1. Go back to Mitisi. They quoted me $380 for supply, cut and program. Gives me genuine functions (remote control and start)
2. Go aftermarket - something like Mister Minit. They want $180 to do an aftermarket key and immobiliser chip. Key looks like crap TBH, and no remote control. But at least we can key the door, start the engine, and drive
3. Buy a used key. I'm inclined to do this but want to know if anyone can possibly help with (a) re-programming the immobiliser chip, and (b) help me re-program the remote control to work with our car

I know it's probably one of the more painful first questions from a newbie but we'd really appreciate any help at all! Thanks in advance =)

From what I remember reading in the workshop manual you would probably be able to buy a used key but you will need a MUT-III to get the cars electronics to learn the key. Unfortunately you may be stuck to just buying the key from a dealer. Try shopping around and you may find some dealers will do it cheaper.

Would any one in SA like to pull together and put in $100 each and collectively purchase a MUT-III and stop the gangsters who charge way too much for key replacement and reprogramming!!!!!

Hi, Does the wire in OBD port 1 and 4 and hit Hazard button 6 times and then hit lock button 3 times on new remote work, as I've seen some on you tube, or does that only work on certain year models.

It's probably series specific and even then it is possible changes were made to specific model years.

There are workshop manuals out there, suggest you obtain one and read what it says.
