Gearbox issues

Hello All.
2008 ES Manual

Contrary to what your probably thinking( burnouts and a wasted clutch of which i never do :) ) i'm having perceived issues with my gearbox.

I've noticed over the last 2 weeks that changing to second and then to 3rd that the gears feel tougher to place into, even down shifting (rev matched of course) feels tougher than usual.

My question is does anyone have much experience with gearbox troubleshooting or some helpful hints. Im thinking it's the oil however a few people have told me the oil should last time and then i hear as well that it depends on your driving and as i drive alot with alot of shifting involved the stock oil isn't suited to my needs.

The clutch feels fine it's just finding second then to 3rd gear it just feels tougher.

Let me know what you think fellas. I don't launch either :) :)

56000km's on the clock

The oil in the SST for the Ralliart is suppose to last around 80,000 kms....... If yours has got problems at just 56k, then you have either tracked her too much, or have other problems with the SST. Hope it goes good for me as I have only just gone over 15k and no probs yet.

What about in Sports mode changing automatically. Is there any problems or is it just using the shifter/paddles???
The oil costs around $400 to change and you may wanna hope that it fixes the problems. Because otherwise its 8 grand for a new transmission.

Hmmm have you checked the service book? I have a feeling that the oil is recommended to be changed at 45,000km if the car is driven in "extreme conditions" or some *poo* like that....I plan on changing my oil then, will probably use something like a fully synthetic Nulon gear oil. Still yours sounds like it's more an issue with the shift mechanism or the gate...

Apparently it's 195,000km or 60,000km under harsh conditions that you are supposed to change the gear box oil.

Adrian just changed his and reckoned it's smoother since changing. Maybe it's worth doing yours too...

yer ill book it in with a gearbox specialist for a service on it. Don't trust the mitsufishy dealers here :p. Plus pembers already annoyed me with their attitude for a simple service and charging a incredible bill :)

Yes, as I told Ryan the other day 60,000 for harsh conditions or 140,000 for regular. Seems high, but it's what the book says.

I changed mine to Penrite Sin Full Synthetic for the sake of $50 why not do it every 60,000 at least.

Shifting much smoother, just like new again.

One thing to note though, I know of 1 MY09 ES Sportback owner who is on his second gearbox. Replaced under warranty. Trouble shifting into and out of second gear. After a free servicing and checkover (warranty paid) the problem still was there, so approval from MMAL for gearbox replacement was given. This person's box wasn't treated rough, just one of those 1 in a million faults.

Might be worth seeing what Mitsi says.
