If I want to put the black front end on the blue car is all I need if the bar and grille? TIA. Any anybody know why there's two different style front bars or when it changed or whatever?

All you'll need is the bar with grills attached, may need to bring over fog lights if you have them and the new bar doesn't and make sure the lips are the same. The bars changed as part of the series changeover in 2005/6 - The early twin grill came in both a long and snub nose style and both with lips that are possibly diferent, so just be aware of that. All bars mount up the same, the only difference is how they look.

Yes, 100% correct, no problems changing over the front bumper covers/grille

To answer your question the reason it changed was the early snub nose was what Mitsubishi Motors called the "Corporate Look" which some designer thought was a good idea at the time to have this look across Mitsubishi Models (other manufactures also had the same idea) unfortunately for Mitsubishi they received numerous complaints from Pontiac and many current owners regarding its similarity in appearance to General Motors Division Pontiac's corporate look, see pic below:

So in 2006 the engineer that designed the corporate look in the first place for Mitsubishi was stood aside (thank god) and they then decided to follow the front styling of the Mitsubishi Evolution series (the above pic is a 2003 model pontiac) you can see why they cracked it about the similarity! :sunglasses:

Note also that the FOG LIGHTS are incompatible between the two bumpers. If you look closely you will notice the blue car's has perpendicular inner sides where as the black car's are on a slant. The are available however on ebay for under $200.
