We've already got a thread in the CE section that pretty well covers it, but this is a good place to ask and cover any CH specific items.

Lets Start with the Basics - What do I do in a service and When do I do it?

According to the book -
- Oil (W/Filter) 7,500kms
- Air Filter 15,000kms (Inspect at 7,500kms)
- Automatic Transmission Fluid 45,000kms
- Manual Transmission Fluid 105,000kms (Under harsh driving replace at 30,000kms)
- Brake Fluid 45,000kms or every 2 years, whichever is sooner
- Coolant 45,000kms or every 2 years, whichever is sooner
- Spark Plugs 100,000kms for Platinum plugs and 45,000kms for standard type
- Brake Inspection 7,500kms
- Tyres 15,000kms
- Timing Belt 100,000kms or 60 months

Personally I like to service between 5,000-10,000kms or every 12 months doing oil w/filter, inspect & clean of air filter, full vehicle inspection and adjust all levels & pressures. The mitsubishi recommended is actually one of the few manufacturer set servicing intervals that I like/agree with. Most manufacturers set low service frequency with high kms between services now and this has lead to a surge in engine slugding, and issues causing breakdowns as nothing is inspected before it becomes catastrophic.

How much of what do I need?

For each fluid I will list the capacity for the g94 (2L) first and follow with the G69 (2.4L)

Oil 3.8L (G94) or 4.3L (G69) *
Brake Fluid 1L total system capacity (DOT 3 or 4)
Clutch Fluid (As required) DOT 3 or 4
Power Steering Fluid 1L of ATF 3 or ATF 2
Coolant 6L in G94 or 7L G69
Automatic Transmission Fluid 7.7L (Mitsubishi Genuine Auto SP III)
Manual Transmission Fluid 2.2L Mitsubishi Genuine MTF
Washer Tank 4.3L Water & your choice of additive

*The oil grade to use varies on your usage conditions. Usually a 15w-40 is the go to, however realistically any multi-grade is fine as long as at meets the ACEA A3 or higher and API SG or higher grades. I use Castrol GTX 15w-40 in my G94 and Castrol Edge 5w-30 in my G69.

Is that it?


Sure isn't, Mitsubishi Also says that these items can be "upsold" on every service:
- A/C Test - Functional test and inspection of components
- Cooling system test - Pressure test and conditions check
- Wheel Alignment - Needs to be done at a specialist shop (Requires Machinery & training)
- Tyre Rotate - Self explanatory
- Wheel Balance - Needs to be done at a specialist shop (Requires machinery & training)
- Wiper blade replacement - Self explanatory
- Battery Service - Clean terminals & check connections
- Body inspection - Check for damage that could lead to performance issues

Aswell as these items there is also:
- Overall Vehicle Inspection
- Cabin Filter servicing
- Lights Test
- Adjusting levels and pressures

How to Section: *Construction Under Progress*

Tools Required:
- 17mm Spanner or Socket w/Drive
- 24mm Spanner or Socket w/Drive
- Hand Pump
- Drain Pan
- Jack
- Jack Stands

Parts Required:
- 2.2L MTF (75w-85 GL4)
- 2x Washers

This is a simple fluid change, that is much the same on a 4G94 & 4G69

Step 1) Raise & Secure vehicle LEVEL on stands and place the drain pan under the gearbox. Alternatively, there is no need to raise the vehicle, as at standard ride height, there is enough room to work underneath.

Step 2) Using the 17mm spanner, open the fill plug on the front of the gearbox, pictured below

Step 3) Open the drain plug with the 24mm underneath the centre of the box (Pic)

Step 4) While the fluid drains, clean the two plug & fit the new washers.

Step 5) Fit the drain plug & tighten (Torque Spec)

Step 6) Fit the hand pump into the oil container & fill it with 2.2L of trans oil. NB the oil will spill out when it reaches this level, so if you overfill, wait for it to become a slow dribble out the fill hole & then fit the plug. Tighten to xx NM.

Step 7) Remove vehicle from stands. You're now ready to drive as per usual. Remember to dispose of your waste oil & washers in an environmentally conscious manner.
