DIY Removing the Parcel Shelf

Hey, I just bought my first car, a dark green 2000 CE Gli Coupe, and I've been lurking around on the forum since then :). Anyway this is my first thread on the forum. I know its a fairly simple task to remove the parcel shelf but i couldn't find anything on it when i searched so i thought I'd give it a try.
A while ago my uncle gave me 2 sets of speakers he had lying around. I decided to fit one pair in the parcel shelf. Problem is the speakers have there own rectangular case that houses the speaker and the tweeters. Upon test fitting i found that there would be large gaps where the old cover used to be. So i decided i needed to make a new parcel shelf. I will make a write up about that when i'm finished but the first thing i needed to do was remove the existing parcel shelf.

To do this you will need
Phillips head screw drivers of various sizes
A 12mm Ring Spanner
An 8mm Ring Spanner

Firstly the lower rear bench was unclipped and removed.

The 12mm was used to undo the bolts circled. This releases the upper rear bench and allows them to slide up and outwards. The black layer under this simply unclips and comes off. There should now be a large hole from your cabin to the boot. For nest step i just stuck my head through here.

The speaker cover is held in by 4 of these screws. You may need to view the picture in a separate window to see the screw.

Once the speaker cover comes off the the speakers are just unscrewed disconnected and pulled out.

The next move is to get rid of the brake lights and the child seat clip. The brake lights was held in with 8mm nuts and the child clip can be removed from the top using the 12mm. the brake lights also need to be disconnected.
It was at this point i was dismayed to find that to get to the shelf i would have to further dismantle the rear trim.

The side trims are held in by these two clips and by several internal clips. It requires a fair bit of force to dislodge the internal clips but if you use your screwdriver as a lever along the edges you should be able to pop the first few making the rest easier.

Once the side trims are gone you will need to take out the pillar trims. Similar to the side trims these are held in by internal clips and can be pulled of.

This is what i mean by the internal clips.
After all this you are now able remove the parcel shelf!

Hope this helped anyone who was planning to do this. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me :). As i said ill put up another DIY when i have finished the shelf and eventually a ride thread when i have something to show of :).
Thanks for reading.
