Make your own Leather covered steering wheel!
Nothing to take off, not too difficult really. Made mine from an old leather coat. Length of leather needed on my car was 1.2 mtrs+ Then stretched around steering wheel and excess cut off.

Pictures pretty well tell all.

Thread used is leather lacing, needle needs to be large enough for 3mm flat leather lacing. Size depends on holes you use but should be strong enough to take a good tug.
Both purchased from Spotlight, although art and craft shops could possibly help.

When stitching, start from under leather so visible stitching shows as going across to the hole directly opposite.

When stitching around wheel spokes, go from the last hole at the rear, to the front hole, then from one hole to the next on the front to the other side of the spoke and pick up the exact corresponding hole at the rear and onwards. Good luck!!!

Neater fit, to cover spokes could be achieved by judicious shaping of the leather around the spokes and the flap either stitched in place or just glued.

edit:- Ends joined by boot repairer $10, lace was I think $8, leather free from old coat was originally made for a XC Falcon. Piece of leather in photo was bit cut off to fit new wheel.
