DIY Cam removal

Don't do it the way I did. Only do it if you're not going to be using the engine. I used a hammer a lot of the time. If you damage the block then you'll need to get it welded back flat.

@donki

So my cousin said he had a lancer wreck. He let me take the cam out for free which was nice. For free as long as I took it out my self. The following pictures may frighten people who like cars. This is what happens when you don't service your car often enough.

So you'll need a bar of some sort. I used a thick screw driver.
10mm and 12mm sockets
A hammer
breaker bar or air tools

So you're gonna wanna take the rocker cover off. I think it's 10 10mm bolts. While it's off you might as well degrease it and paint it. Chuck some mad pink flames on it or what ever.

Pop the cover aside for now. With the head off grab your socket and take off all the bolts you can see.

Try to take the curved bits off at the same time as taking the bolts out.

Once you take them all off this arm thing will come off as well

With that off it's now time to take the cam shaft pulley. Pop something in between the pulley and the block, like putting a stick in the front wheel of a bike. When the stick reaches the end of the wheels turn, the bike will flip. Same thing here, When the pulley turns enough, the screw driver (in this instance I used a screw driver) will stop it from turning. Pop your socket (I think it was a 15mm) on and undo the bolt. Use your breaker bar for this or air tool.

I had some piping laying around but using the pole for a floor jack works fine as well. Just take the plastic handle off it if you have a normal sca one.

Now with that done you wanna jump on over to the other side and undo everything on the other side of the cam. If it doesn't come off then hit it. You can see that's what I've done as the damage is visible.

Now just slide the cam out. If it doesn't come out then it's probably because the curved bits from earlier have come off and jammed themselves, like so
