spot on

also,
the 97' didnt have front lip and 2pc headlights not sure if it had foggies
the 98' didnt have front lip and 1pc headlights and foggies (blue camo interior) (renound for epic roof rust)
the 99' had front lip, 1pce headlights and foggies (red camo interior)

Yep and power mirrors, factory alloy wheels, full MR body kit, CD stacker in some... And don't forget the cup holders!

Iv seen it on dozens of 98 model MR's
with mine, it was in the center toward the front of the car, it really isnt that serious, it just bubbled the paint a little

when i put my car in for a full respray, they sanded back the roof, grinded down the rust, bit of bog to even things up and re painted it, cost about $400 iirc, wasnt overly complex and could of been done cheaper if i DIY the prep stuff like ryan did on his rage
but then again, iv seen oodles of 98 MR's that didnt have a single sign of rust,

The previous owner of my car had never washed it and left it outside 24/7 to cop the full brunt of it all

My 2001 MR Coupe (left) still has the sorta square shaped fog lights. It was manufactured on January 1st 2001 though idk if that changes anything haha. there’s so many different variations XD

The CE3 facelift occurred at some point in mid 2001, I haven't been able to determine which exact month though.
 
Id hazard a guess around the August/September change over - most manufacturers change the tooling over twice a year, once around March for midyear model updates, and once in August/September for the new year updates.
