Custom Sub-box in Sportback

Hey guys I didn't get the Rockford system in my car since mitsu wipped it as a std item not long before my car was built and for the price they want for it I'm better off going with something better, so I'm thinking of getting a custom sub box built for my sportback to go in the area where the rockford goes and I was wondering if anyone has done much with these yet and their experiences?

cheers,

Nathan.

My mate makes them, similar process to above.

Fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

If you're after a decent setup you'll probably be better off going for a more conventional box design. Apart from a lol slimline sub, the size of enclosure you'd fit into that side area isn't big enough.

I replaced my RF sub with a pioneer slimline (12") then replaced that with a Kicker L7 Solo Baric (square faced sub) and now finally I am happy with it's 750WRMS of bassss!! The slimline was worth about $230 but I'll sell it for $100 if you're interested. It only does small fast punchy bass though. You'll need a ful size sub if you want loud and hard bass.

So long as you're near the volume inside the box the sub requires to perform at optimal quality it'll sound fine. The RF system is really really slim line, you could extend it another 10-20cm and still maintain a lot of the boot space.

I'd never buy a box off the shelf TBH, you can make so much better DIY.

Meh but atleast I know my kicker box has been designed for the sub and the right volume and port hole size, plus it looks prettier than anything I could knock up indads crap garage lol!!

The RF enclosure s about the right size for a pioneer (pioneer ones are shallower yet more powerful than the RF sub) slimline sub in the sedan but I haven't looked at the shape of the sportsbacks enclosure to know how different it is to ours..

I'll post up some pics of my mates when I get a chance, hopefully tonight. Perfect size for his car and sub. The sub is nothing flash but given the right box any sub can sound great. :)

Is covered with carpet now, but this was just after it was completed. MDF and Fibreglass construction.
Moulded to the side of a Swift GTi's boot, really ordinary sub that sounds pretty good for how much was paid for it. That being said it's not hard to get a car of this size sounding good.

Sorry bout the pics, were taken on my phone so pretty *poo* quality. I'll try and get some of it inside the car.

My mate made it, if I end up selling my car and get something else he is itching to make me one, he also made up 6.5inch pods for his brothers car which were awesome. Beats paying the $100 or whatever JB Hifi sell em for!
