i would be carfull with using mdf, make sure its not to think or it wont fit in next to the window, why not get some thin ply or just use the 1 already there.

Yeah that was one of my concerns. I would have liked to have used a thicker peice, but it wouldn't have fit in against the window like you said. So i'll be doing what you suggested and using the original bit of ply.
