Custom Parcel Shelf

Hey guys,

A lot of you seem to have custom interiors so i'm hoping this should be a fairly easy question.
This weekend I'd like to start building my custom parcel tray. Now I'd imagine the easiest way would be to start off with a base, probably something like MDF, and use fiberglass etc to build it the way i want.

My question is, what is the best way to go about getting the base the right size and shape? I've had the same issue when i attempted a boot install, i attempted to make a false raised floor, however there were gaps around the side and it just didn't fit as great as i would have liked.

So if anyone here has done it or knows of the best way (more often than not it's really logical and easy, i just overlook these things), then I'd really appreciate your help.

Cheers,
Chif

Re: Custom Parcel Tray

Best way would be to take the parcel tray out and trace the shape onto the MDF, then throw it in and make any adjustments you need to

Re: Custom Parcel Tray

Yeah i thought about doing that. I wasn't aware that the parcel tray was removable though, so i take it that it is?

Re: Custom Parcel Tray

Yeah, well just looking at it, it seems as though it's fixed. Couldn't see anything in the gregories manual.. Not too sure about this one

Yes you can take it out. It's thin ply wood. The brake light and speaker covers come out first.
When it's out trace it, onto mdf, I will make a write up when I make aarons parcel sheft with tvs.

As to your floor in your boot install, you want to get a big layer of cardboard and a cutting knife and shape while you are in the boot, once you have the shape, trace it onto mdf and cut it out.
It's not too hard.

Thanks heaps for that.
Like i said i tend to overlook the simple ways of doing these things haha.. I'll let you know how i go.

my parcel shelf is metal... wtf?
if it was wood and removable i would have done some *poo* to it ages ago, but mine is fair fixed

its metal underneath...
but theres a slim wooden board trimmed in the usual dark fabric on top

Yep, i can confirm that. Found out last night. I'll be going shopping for some supplies tonight and start building something tomorrow, I'll keep everyone updated.

nup checked mine my parcel tray is fully metal with a bit of carpet stuff on top
