CJ Lancer ~ timing belt?

Hello All,

I am new to this forum. Have been checking out different mid sized cars, online. Have searched this forum and other online locations but can not find a definitive answer to my question. Does the CJ MY10 and MY11 Lancers, 2.0 litre engine have a timing belt (cam belt)? If so, at what intervals does it require replacing?

Thanks,
mymonaro

Cj lancers have chain's which are a non serviceable item, designed to last the life of the engine. If u were to replace it, it will cost u thousands trust me. Done one under warranty took 3 days todo and cost well over 2k for memory.

Thanks for the info.

Yup defintely has a timing chain and shouldn't need servicing at 90-100,000kms. Only major out of the norm thing in the 90,000km service is that they are supposed to have valve clearance checked. Being bucket and shim deisgn though there is a fair bit of work to replace the shims and I've heard that the initial ones they checked weren't showing enough signs of wear to warant doing it on all CJs...

If the CJs have shim-over-bucket designs, then the easiest way to check them periodically (without open-heart surgery) is compression testing... we do this on all our bikes. That said, it's relatively simple to replace shims, with the right tool...although, I agree with Ryan, these engines are not working hard enough (like a bikes) to warrant too much wear...

My manual for my motorcycle shows that the shim replacement is easy with a tool you can get from Suzuki but the CJ Lancer workshop manual shows that you have to remove the cams to be able to get the shims out IIRC. Whether or not this is overkill who knows, but if that's the case then it's gonna be some expensive labour to get it done...
