Cj Lancer buyer guide and tips?

Hi guys,
looking at a Cj lancer, manual.
Would prefer a 2.4 l but there's lots of 2l versions on the market.
Any tips or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated.
I assume the 2.4 l is the pick of the engines lineups, but is there any quick mod, say ECU tune that would get better responsiveness and drivability out of the 2l?

Im looking at a 2l ES, stick standard boring.
Looking at putting some 18inch VRX rims and tyres on it, and doing some suspension work.
A little bit of ECU tuning maybe? Just to get a little more out of the 12l. Its a fairly low output engine, so Im thinking there would be a lot of improvements possible which also be insurance friendly and street legal?
