You haz PM, Henry :)

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

Looking at the site so far it seems good. You guys getting any hardcore mods at all like cams, fuel pumps?

And to any who laugh at the use of hardcore, with all my mods planned out - that is beyond what I plan

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

I haven't heard of anyone doing the cams on the CJ. There's a guy on the central coast (Merlin) that will do on the road tunes for your CJ and part of that is they can alter the MIVEC mapping which alters the cam profiles on the fly. I suspect that is why no one has bothered.

In all honesty though if you want straight line speed sell up down the track and buy a faster car. Simple mods like exhaust, headers and a tune will be your best bet. I've even heard of people using 4B12 injectors as they have a bit more capacity up at the higher RPMs but you really would want to put them on before you get the car tuned. Also dont bother with any of the CAI kits, get a K&N or HKS panel filter and look for the RA intake duct (cut out the plastic over the radiator too). Unless things have changed it swap straight in and for $200-300 you've got a stock looking and legal upgraded intake!

Where you will get the most benefit is putting some better brakes on the car and upgrading the suspension. Henry can sort you out with a set of BC Racing coilovers and probably upgraded Whiteline sway bars and for brakes something like a RDA slotted rotor and QFM HPX pads would do you good. Couple that with some decent rubber (Kumho KU31s are pretty good bang for buck) and you'll have a decent handling car!

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

I'm looking at doing some upgrades for my 93 CC Coupe, not to sound cheap but what is the minimum cost for coilovers for normal road use, but something I can adjust the hight down a little. Currently there is about a 5cm clearance at the top of the wheel arch (maybe a little more at the front) which I'd like to cut in half and leave maybe 2-3 cm gap but without anything bottoming out or scrapping when loaded passengers in the back. And not to sound old but I don't want a harder ride. I'm currently running 15" 195/50 and have no plans to go bigger just yet.

Henry's recomendation might be different. But Bc reds should be enough. I know Henry does custom spring rates so he could help you with the ride if you do so purchase threw him. But Id go with something like 5kg front and 4kg rear if you arent all about cornering all the time. But again. Henry will advise you on what would work a bit better i think. Oh and your probably looking at around 1-1.2k depending on who you buy and that sort of thing.

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

I've always found the Lancer Coupe great in corners, whether it's an open road or roundabout. So as long as it's as good or better I'm fine with that.

FYI I checked the local dealer on price, for standard replacement parts and OMG, first they can't get front springs anymore, and the rest (springs and shock) will cost over $2k, and that's before fitting! Now I know from car dealers as a trade-in my car is only worth about $1000 and it's a good 93 GLXi which is pretty much standard apart from bigger wheels, some subtle side skirts, bootlid spoiler. Why would the average driver ever get genuine parts for a 20 year old car?

Thanks for the info, I'm looking at doing a cat-back first but the suspension is next on the list, might need some help installing when the time comes.

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

genuine parts are way pricey, you can get a set of front or rear shocks and oem height springs NEW for near $280 per end
however i would strongly recomend coilovers, you think it handles well now, go in a car with coils and its a whole different ball game

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

You're right.

And the only handling issue I have right now is a loss of grip at the front in the wet when cornering too hard, but that's FWD for you.

$1000 would be a good price.

springs should outlast the vehicle.
it is the shocks that should be replacement at around 80000km.
first ones to go are the rears.
you are lucky if you can get 1000$ for the glxi cc as a trade in.
the cars are cheap now so consider anything half decent you do can end up costing more than the car itself.
but we arent modifying it beacuse value for money.

coilovers are the way to go for an ultimate handling package.
replacement springs will give a sporty feel.
if you want something more toward race car and fast street similar to what one would use on hillclimb, tarmac rally, targa tasmania then go coilovers.

Re: Check out our site for Mirage/Lancer performance upgrade

I was all set to replace the shocks, even bought some from Supercheap at a good price but ended up returning them as I hit money problems and needed a refund, which luckily I got.

Yeah I know I'm not gonna get my money back, I've seen some spend $1000s on upgrades and repairs only to sell the car for less than the work done. Personally I've had the CV joints, aircon and some paint work done in the last year. Total value would be more than the cars value but I did it as a) I can't afford anything newer and b) It needed to be done to keep it running.

Love my CC but if I had the money I'd get into a current CJ, even a used one, then start working on it. My ultimate wish would be get a newer Lancer but keep the CC and add to it. But like many here it all comes down to my bank balance.
