G'day All,

Long time no see lol

Well i run into an issue today where my 10,000K HID passenger bulb died, an i think its due to the headlight housing getting condensation in it.
I have spoke about this in a previous topic: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2265&hilit=condensation

however i need a new housing does any one have one???? they r willing to part with?

holly crap 10000k, [strike]can you even see with that[/strike] can other drivers see with that

fixed

What do u mean fixed?? Coz I'm stuck ATM, trying to workout what todo, I thinking bout ebaying new housings they r like 120a piece

I am not really up to date with all the HID stuff that is out there I kind of figure if it works why fix it.. as a brief fix I would be looking at pulling the head light out of the car let it air out which will get rid of moisture - when reinstalling it all back together look at the rubber gromet that covers the main globe if there is a small hole etc also make sure that all the other rubbers are intact and firmly secured and as a last thing maybe run a small bead of Loctite #26 glue around the outer casing where the clear lens connects to the back housing.

The only way you would be getting condensation is by air getting on there somehow I have never had any problems with mine... I am wondering how much heat those HIDS are putting out and over heating the air that is in the headlights and then with winter coming on it is cooling down creating moisture...

Thanx for the info i will take a look at all the rubber grommets, but thats a great theory with the temps of the HIDS i spose i can do some research into that aswell :)

thanx heaps :)

He just changed or 'fixed' what mdclear said. 10000K is ridiculous and it's probably blinding other drivers pretty badly. That's what he meant.

Well i run into an issue today where my 10,000K HID passenger bulb died, an i think its due to the headlight housing getting condensation in it.

Let's try troubleshoot;
- since most of the bulb sits OUTSIDE the housing itself (i'm guessing you have those ebay-style plug-in HIDs which "work" in reflectors) have you had a look to see if there is any damage on the casing? follow the wires up into the housing, it there any signs of water or damage at all? check at the base of the bulb also.
- have you checked that the bulb is actually getting power? could your ballast be stuffed? swap them over to see.
- look at the actual bulb bit which sits inside your headlight. If it was damaged by condensation then theres a good chance that the electrodes will have spots of rust on them (the wires which run to either end of the glass bit)
has the bulb cracked/blacked out or anything?
- how long have you had the bulb? maybe it just reached the end of it's usable life? 10000k is not an OEM-copied part so I doubt whoever makes them has proper quality control.

In any case you shouldn't be getting condensation, so take any of the suggestions given to you to seal up the headlight with glue, silicone, rubber, whatever!
Have you tried putting in a normal bulb, to see if it still happens??

ps. temperatures of HIDs should be slightly LESS than that of a incandescent filament.

Ok well the ones i got are from these guys, I have used them before (http://www.point-blank.com.au/) They are philips globes H4 Hi/Lo Bi Xennon, I've never had an issue before :)
as for the bulb housing i don't believe there is an issue there as i have checked, no water leakage signs there.
As for power to the bulb, when i un plug and swap the broken one(passenger side) and drop it in the other one (driver side) it still doesn't work, I also put the working globe in the passenger side and it works :) so that tells me that the ballast is fine no issues :) just the globe is having issues. What i might do is go take a quick video of whats happening when i power up the dead one, Its getting like a spark in the middle bubble bit of the globe and it keeps trying to start but its just doesn't.
Here is a photo of the part that mean that doesn't start:( this image is just an example its not mine lol as its not a H4 lol :p

These HIDs that i have had are only about a year old.
As for the glass bit itself its looks normal no issues :?:

Hope this is enough info to help me do more diagnostics.

On a side note i did pop unto pick an pay less and get two new rubber caps thingos for the back of the headlight housing incase mine are screwed :(

There is so much more to igniting an HID bulb other than making a sparking in a glass bulb.

for the price of a new bulb just buy a set. I got mine for $25 or something, that was for a pair too.

Sounds like your bulb is dead. I agree with Tron; just replace it!
The place you bought it from has a 12month warranty, if it's only been a year then get them to replace it.

If you really want to upgrade;
This is a genuine phillips conversion bulb. H4 H/L; note how there are no ridges around the bottom, and how the metal bit around the top is different.
They only come in 4200K and 6000K

So here is the issue im faced with :( pic taken today :)

So I have since ordered new bulbs from point blank. Please see new bulbs, they look identical to my old ones.

I also dropped into pick an payless and picked up for free these little goodies :)

Right now my baby is in pieces once again :(

With my headlights out in my sunroom drying out Im hoping that this will all work a treat :)
As you can see in one of the photos there is a small puddle of water on the floor lol so im hoping that most of it out now going to hit it with hair dryer soon and prolly leave it in sun all day 2mora as well.

If anyones got any further advice please let me know :?
