cc lancer grinding issue!

Hey guys i need some help please, had my car converted to a manual 11 months ago.. in the last month i've gone through 2 new synchros! Shifting into 2nd is fine but going from 3rd to 2nd grinds @20kmph+. The mechanic who replaced the synchros said to get a whole new box but i dont want to due to every other gear being flawless! Thanks.

Its like 100-200 for a new box. How much are the synchros costing you?

Well it cost me 550 for the mechanic to do a new synchro and 3 bearings.
But if i get a new box theres always a chance of something wrong with that. And theres nothing in the way of any boxes down my way ):

Was oil put in it after the synchros were replaced?
Are you remembering to use the clutch.

Its very hard to diagnose this kind of thing due to 1000 variables. Are you launching it hard, or smashing through gears?

Also, try to only create one thread.

Yeah sorry the phone does two lots of everything.
Yeah oil was added, i always take it easy in gears. I try to shift down to 2nd slowly and it still grinds, he also claimed it could be the actual gear thats ruined, whats your opinion on that? Because if it was the gear wouldnt going from 1st to 2nd also grind?

You can kinda confirm if its the synchromesh by double clutching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI3cHXnGEx4 from 3 to 2nd.If that works then just double clutch..drove most of my fried gearbox's in my youth that way... even did my L's and P's on a crash box..... boy was that an adventure

Haha @ evl20t. They were a bit shonky so i wouldnt be suprised.

I have double clutched it which helps but its had two new synchros which is what i dont get.
Oh that woulda been fun!

If they did install them backwards and I have seen a lot of shonky box builds, then the gears will be stuffed, if thats the case I suggest you to just get a second hand box

When you had your car converted to manual, they they throw a strengthening plates between the clutch master, firewall and clutch pedal??

It could even be due to incorrect clutch adjustment

Get someone to press on the clutch while u lay under the car and see how much movement is in the clutch fork, maybe your not getting enough to push the pressure plate in

A common mod when the box is out is to throw a 3mm washer/shim under the clutch fork pivot ball, that will give the fork more throw
