Catch Cans and other “longevity” mods

Hello Lancer lovers,

I recently picked up a CH with over 400,000km and I’m looking how to extend the life of the engine for as long as possible.

Has anyone installed a catch can, are they worth it?

And what other mods have you done to increase reliability?

Catch cans only worth it to catch blow-by from aspirated engines. Pretty useless on an NA car.

Reliability will come from having a mint electrical system, regular servicing, fuel pump/filter, injector clean, throttle body clean, and major seals/bushes taken care of.

If you really want relibility from the high kms, maybe get the head reconditioned and replace the headgasket.

A catch can is a good mod, wont hurt the car or your wallet. Not a whole heap of benefit unless you have excessive blow by.

Longevity mods on the 69/CH chassis are really just maintenance works. Timing belt + the often overlooked balance shaft belt are the two biggest killers of 4g69’s.

Brakes are easy to keep on top of, but people often forget that shocks play a part in both steering and braking. If they havent been replaced in the last 150k kms, shocks have most likely had it and you’ll benefit from replacing them front and rear along with the top mounts.

Oh and maybe a bash plate for the sump, that’s another big killer… something about speed bumps and low sumps….

Good servicing of coolant, gearbox oil, auto fluid, power steer fluid and brake fluid. Don't drive it like you stole it.
Is it a 2.4 engine or 2.0. Timing belt or belts as sdate42 said. Fix stuff small when first noticed.
