Timing belt problem??? Does the cam spin when you turn the motor over by hand. Take the top cover off and check or look down through the oil cap. Hope this helps.

checked timing i can turn it buy hand only gets a little stuck so to speak when it gets to the point where it makes the noise almost sounds like its trying to stretch or compress a spring

so i found the issue a bolt somehow got into the timing covers and got between the harmonic balance and crank sprocket destroying the sensor and of course the little pieces of the sensor were hitting the backing of the sprocket making the noise now to find someone selling one cheap on here hopefully
thanks for the help also if it wasn't for you saying timing belt problem Frosty i would never of found it

Cars all back together and running thanks for help odd question but does anybody know if i can put a strut spacer fdor a trition or pajero into a 2002 ce 1.8 coupe looking to lift it as will be marking it into rally car

My Lancer MR coupe boiled and now it will not start.
I have been told I need to reset the computer.
Firstly I think the head gasket has blown as the compression is about 80 psi.
Secondly does anyone know how to reset the computer.

Quite likely you've seized the engine from heat, but that makes a compression test unusual.
To reset the ECU/Computer, disconnect your battery for 15minutes, turn the key a couple times to discharge the system, then start the car and let it run for 15 minutes.
