Broke my evo - FIXED!

Hey guys

So Me and a mate decided to put on my new headers and dump pipe in the other day.
we ran into a few speed bumps like damaged threads and stuff.

biggest thing was the egr lines wouldn't fit through the headers so we put the supplied bungs in and removed the egr ( lines from exhaust, unit and plugged the hose and the vacuum line)
There is a small exhaust leek I can hear but it seems to be comming from the flex pipe, sounds like its farting a bit lol.

We got it started and it runs. No CEL.

But when I drive it, its like there is no boost.
The turbo spools and it starts alot earlier then before but there is no power to it.
The BOV still makes plenty of noise if not more than it used to.

I started to think it was because of the EGR so i made a block off plate and put it all back minus the lines from the exhaust.
Took it for another drive and I think it was a tad better but pretty much the same.

Iv check all the vaccum lines i can find and they all seem to be hooked up.

I need some help if anyone has had a similar problem or has the answer. I can still drive it but its juts gutless.

Sounds like the prob marty is having with his MAAADDDDDD "EVO" on MCM. ;)

If you simply remove the EGR system from the car, but do not disable it in the ECM, you will run into significant problems. You will likely run into detonation, the engine will run very poorly, lack power, and will probably run on the hot side as well. In addition, you will get a code 32 before running very long. If you recall from before, the ECM alters fuel and spark advance when it thinks EGR should be on. If no EGR flowis possible because you removed it, you will have a lean condition which will be further aggravated by advanced timing.

This is for the evo viii and ix but I imagine its probably the same for the earlier evos as well since there is an ecu bit to disable it.

You'll find the SAS system isn't enabled from the factory in the ecu.

Sounds like you've just got a pipe off/boost leak. Do you have a boost guage, is it going above zero ?

As said, sas piping is disabled from factory in the ecu, there should be the 2 threads in the exhaust manifold that need to be plugged,
The connector on the upper intercooler pipe near the throttle body that needs to be TIGHT.
And there was a small vacuum line going from the solenoid to a hard pipe near the Tb that needs to be capped.

Other than that, providing the manifold and intercooler piping is secured, the only other thing I can think of would be a vacuum hose that runs to the boost control solenoid.

Recently removed mine. No issues. Just make sure everything is blocked back up nice and tight
