Brake Pads for ES

Hey guys,
Just looking to buy some OE+ brake pads for the lancer to work with stock caliper and rotor setup (2006 ES CH 2.4 CS7A). I've come across the bendix ultimates and EBC green/yellow, but can't find any specific models which have a guaranteed fit. Any advice would be appreciated

My advice would be to remove one of your brake pads, get the dimensions of it, and cross reference that with whatever new pad you buy. A lot of companies have incorrect info according to parts numbers (e.g. different model has different brakes and they don't account for this, or they use US info not AUS delivered vehicles).

Once you have that, check EBC, Project Mu, Brembo etc.

What are you going to be doing with the car. Track, street, motorkahna, drag.
Spirited street with maybe a light track day a few times a year (not competitive). Mostly just looking to eliminate brake fade and get OE + 20/30% stopping power.

Edit: i looked on the bendix website and i can get ultimate+ for rears, but they only offer general or 4wd for fronts...

Brake fade is from poor heat dissipation. Bigger brakes (increased surface area), braided lines or vented discs will do more than pads for heat management. Pads will be almost purely for stopping power (unless you get ceramic pads). You may find you'd get better track results from an upgrade to brembos or something, even with budget pads

What about something like DBA xtreme performance pads? They advertise higher friction and fade resistance/operating temp, works out to about $400 for front and rear, would it be worth the money? Also just for general safety never hurts to have more stopping power... I'm not an expert on brakes though so I could just be wasting money.

Most track driven mx5s use standard size rotors with fancy pads. If your usage is as you say, those bendix extreme should be fine. Rda brakes do a heavy duty pad that i run for similar use. The drama with race pads for street use is noise, dust and cold performance. Just did some research extreme pads have max temp of 550c. Trw do an excellent street pad 650c working temp and great cold performance but very dusty. Have used these.

$400 is at least half a brake upgrade that will do performance and heat management simultaneously

He will still need a performance pad. They don't need to be expensive. A pad upgrade doesn't require engineering either.

Not all brake upgrades require engineering. Strategic choices. Maybe the upgrade would have decent pads too if you're lucky

Check your local laws, but QLD doesn't need engineering for factory optioned brake setups for the same make/model. Nice big grey area to exploit for CHs especially if you are already 5 stud, because of the ralliart models and evos

Doesn't make it illegal or unsafe

Back on topic, if you want braking performance a bigger brake setup is where you should look first. If that doesn't satisfy your requirements or is in your budget then just look at pads. Would hate to see you spend the money and not get the outcome you were looking for.
