Annoying High Pitch air conditioner noise

Hopefully this is the right section..

I have two CH Lancer ES 2.4L's and in both of them when the air conditioner is on and the recycled air function is selected there is a really annoying high pitch sound.. It disappears in one of them when 'fresh air' is selected but in the other one (which the noise is louder) its still there a little bit with fresh air on and very loud and annoying with Recycled selected.

Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it??

Also, fuel consumption is terrible.. 300km to a tank. Is this normal? They are both autos.

Thanks!

i get a high pitch noise too, but its very faint, so it doesnt bother me. i think its normal.

i get 400km per tank but thats with a bit off hooning in the manual. tbh the fuel economy is shocking o the 2.4L

Yeah fuel economy in the 2.4 is not its best trait. I have not had any problem with this whitsle though?

*cough*

As for the aircon, it could be something like the switch plate to redirect air in which it's not sealing fully... If it's annoying you that much then take it to a mechanic/AC specialist.

I've never noticed any unusual high pitched sound from my car (2.4L CH Manual).

Pretty sure the recycled air inlet is behind the glove box, could be a good place to start looking.
