95 GLXi Suspension upgrade. (Rally)

Recently purchased a 95 GLXi coupe to set up for some motorkhana and khanacross events, but need to raise the car up and stiffen up the suspension a bit first.

Having a bit of trouble trying to find parts to suit this purpose, as everyone is trying to lower theirs etc.

Does anyone have any information on parts that would be suitable to raise up our GLXi coupe and make it handle a bit better on the offroad races?

Thanks in advance.

Hey your right this is a first, I dont know that anyone here has tried to raise their car above stock height, but only raised it because they were distroying their tyres and guards. Do coilover set ups not have the ability to go higher then stock??

Hadn't thought of going the coilover direction.

I guess it would depend on the set-up in question.
Any particular brand of coilovers to recommend for the car?

Definitely going to have a look into them.

Coilovers can go a bit higher than stock from memory, definately go with a coilover brand that has a history with rally style events, something like Ksport or kw, even pedders. Bc is good for track and street, i havnt seen anything from them for offroad use.

go coilovers. run them at stock height, they also have higher spring rates and linear springs so its alot harder to bottom out, whereas other springs will comress alot more due to thier design

BC coilovers are recomended best coilover for the money and have been proven to perform great and last by heaps of people on this forum and in the greater community

Thanks guys.
Coilovers definitely sound like the way to go then.

Have sent a message to BC Coilovers, and will let everyone know what they get back to me with.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Either way get into contact with Henry (Hensperformance) our sponsor on here. He sells BC coilovers and will be able to point you in the right direction. He will also help you with Genuine bracing of all sorts. He has a 4pt. under car cusco brace fs in his thread at the moment, take a look! :)

Ah that's great news, I came across his website online earlier today, but was unsure if he was still in business, due to the website not being updated in quite some time.

Will definitely be getting in contact with him.

Cheers!

have you been playing to much dirt 3?
I don't think a lancer is a good start for that sort of stuff.

Personally id love to see how the lancer fairs

they do quite well.
australia, nz, japan, barbbados, uk, just to name a few still rally these cars.
some more just hillclimb and other dirt.
i have an ongoing collection of photos pictures from builds etc.

here cars from switzerland taking on the nurburgring.

Not even close. With the type of racing we're doing (Khanacross + Motorkhana), light fwd cars is where "it's at".
It's licenced under the Cams "Level 2 - Non Speed" catagory, so no straights over 99m, and technically not over 80 km/h.
Tight windy dirt tracks are loved by the fwd cars running in the same events as us, and majority of the time fwd cars take 1,2,&3 places.

It's not a full on event, more just groups of rovers having fun building up their cars, racing them, and having a good weekend away.

I think we'll be fine ;)

What's your budget? Bc is low end....there is a lot More out there

Not a huge budget, as we have to fund-raise everything ourselves.

Any suggestions as to what else there might be available?
If it's worth it, we might be able to stretch to something a bit better.

Cheers!

i would class bc racing as a mid range. They make coilovers for at least 5 other well known brands. 3 of which i know are japanese brands. And there may be more now.
There are alot of cheap stuff out there that I would not touch.
Brands where I have seen often get leaky shocks. Yet people speculate and say they all come from the same factory. No there is not one factory that makes coilovers for 10 other brands.
But if you want to get more serious you can still get 2 two adjustable, compression and rebound, set for $1600.

Or you can pay $2500 plus for MCA, Proflex, DMS. Some of which are overpriced and overrated.
By all means go for a look around but I promise you these are as good as you are going to get for under $2000 and they get problems replacement damper inserts are not expensive. Alot cheaper than sending away a shock to get rebuilt.

After all these years i havent had even one set get leaking or blown shocks on me.
Even on a car that gets driven 20kkm a year as well as raced at the track several times a year.

You've sold me. Suits our budget, and sounds like a top quality product for the price.
Definitely be hearing from us once we're ready for them

If you didnt want to spend too much $$, you can get some EVO1/2/3 shocks and springs, well technically all you will need are springs and just buy new shocks

Below is a pic of my old wagon when i bought it stock, then when i threw some EVO3 shocks and springs in the front (i lowered it and got defected for being too low, so had to throw the EVO ones in)

Are the evo socks going to work front and rear?

Might be something we look into temporarily, as all the costs are adding up pretty quickly.

In the mean time, cage is all measured up and just waiting to pick up some materials.
Got a workshop we can use to bend and notch all the tubing, and a good welder with cage making experience to put it all together for us.
Things are looking up!

Yes EVO 1/2/3 front and rear shocks will bolt into the coupe drama free

Another thing which will be a benefit is the EVO1/2/3 front shock and spring has a wider diameter than the coupes front shock and spring, therefor it will be stiffer, coz it was made to suit the extra weight
