Hey guys. I'm new to the tuning world, but I've got this really clean 2002 mirage/lancer LS. I've been researching for about a month now online how to turbocharge it, but still feel unsure of myself, this being my first foray into turbo land. I'd appreciate any input from you guys. I've got a 4g93 1.8 L DOHC that I'd love to get 300 hp out of (223kw). Is this possible without altering engine internals? I've found a couple kits online, and I've already learned to avoid the ebay kits, but there is one that looks alright, although it only provides a t25 turbo, which is a little small for me. What do you guys think? Go with this kit? Or beef up the guts and go for a t3 or t4, try to make that 300 hp?

Here's the link to the kit I'm thinking of. https://www.vividracing.com/catalog...mitsubishi-lancer-4g93-4g94-0206-p-42957.html

Hey,

Welcome to the forums.

Not sure you have this in the right section.
LS models are from CGs onwards. Also i dont believe Australian models came with a 4g93, i believe they where 4g94s. Which leads me to believe you arent from Australia?

Correct, I am from USA. My car is a 2002 Mirage. It's called the Lancer in Australia. It has a 4g93

Yeah. Thats what i thought. You have similar model to a JDM CS5A.
However the predicament is that our models had 2L and 2.4Ls in them so it doesnt suit to be in the CG/CH section of our forum as the information you want you wouldnt be able to get from there and i dont see anyone going from the 4g94 to a 4g93dohc swap. However there may be a few CE blokes who have had experience with DOHC 93. I for one havent unfortunately :). Our CE's which are your 2000 and earlier model lancers have SOHC 93s but there have been a few who have done the dohc swap.

Oh, thanks. Sorry if I ended up in the wrong spot. Should I check somewhere else with my question? Don't want to clog up your forum.

Haha no its fine. Its expected as Australian models and years for our Mirages and Lancers dont make sense to anyone else in the world. What we call CE Lancers are CJ to the rest of the world and then our CJs are what the rest of the world calls CYs. Once a mod stumbles upon this they will move it to wherever they see fit but i would definately wait as there are some pretty knowledgeable people on here.

Oh good! Thanks so much. I am really needing some Mitsubishi experts to guide me. I have a really clean little Mirage and I'd love to tune it up, but I feel a little lost in the weeds with all the ebay turbo kits and such. I'm the second owner, my buddies wife was the first.

Haha actually the picture just made me relise i was a derp and forgot the badge names in US were different so you are in the right forum haha. Yeah our CE's which is what we would call it here didnt have an LS model whereas the gens after did. So yeah it wont be moved its in the right spot. Hopefully someone can give you some info soon.

Also i see it has a sunroof? Nice. Not many around with that here.

Whew, good!

No way. Gonna upgrade for sure. Want to do all wheel disks. Was thinking these : https://www.carid.com/2002-mitsubishi-mirage-brakes/ebc-stage-5-superstreet-brake-kit-562686938.html

Well im sure they will be better over stock however in Australia and a few other places like the UK and South East Asia we actually swap our calipers for either EVO3/FTO/Magna calipers which have twin piston fronts and also allow 276mm rotors. I believe Manga for you would be a Diamonte.

These would provide better performance over upgrading any stock parts. Then you can whack on some good rotors and brake pads.

Aw nice! See, that's the help I need! Thanks so much! And yeah, its got the sunroof, cruise control, everything, and it all works great. I' going to turbo it, lower it just a bit for performance, stiffen it for cornering and do some six or seven spoke wheels. Then I also need to swap in a manual gearbox because it is an automatic unfortumately. Also Evo V body kit. It's going to be a fun project.

Sounds good. You have a few options with brakes. If you want to change to 5 stud you can swap out the front hub for an FTO one. If you want to stay 4 stud then just the caliper and caliper bracket. You may need hose lines done as i am not sure how the differ from ours. Same with the rear i believe yours would be stock drum? If so then the 5 stud would pretty much be the whole FTO rear (arm and hub etc).

However i dont know how common protons are in the US and i am not sure they actually exist there. So maybe changing to 5 stud is your only option if you want to get rid of the rear drum brakes as we in australia have the option of getting a proton wira rear end to keep our 4 stud pattern.

not sure the standard rods will take that much power...

i have a stock 93 on the engine stand, i was thinking of putting my old gt3076(needs a rebuild :( ) setup onto and see how much it would take.

I don't think the stock engine will take anything more than a t25 with like 5-7 lbs of boost. My plan is to replace the rod bearings, rods, pins, piston heads, valve springs etc. Stronger head gasket and bolts, maybe lift the head with a spacer. But with the right engine internal upgrades I feel 300 hp should be doable with a t4 turbo. Problem is, all the kits I find online are only t25 turbo kits.

well if your talking about a built bottom end then 300hp is easy, just need a big enough turbo.
