2003 Mirage CE - weird thrumming noise

2003 Mirage CE 5 speed 240k.
Original engine, 1.5L. Stock parts.

Started 6 months ago - I have this strange ’thrumming’ sound coming from what appears to the the front of car.
The thrumming gets louder and faster with speed.

So it is rotational?

Seems louder on the drivers side, less from a passenger’s perspective.

What have I done to resolve this since this weird wacko noise started?

Tyres - Dunlop LM704 205/45 16 replaced with new Yoko 205/45 16. Yes, round ones.
Existing (not new been on there a while) BSA 16” x 6” wheels straight, none are bent, cracked or out of shape.
Alignment check.

Turn steering wheel left and right no change in noise - not bearings, or power steering.
No clicking sounds heard, not CV joints.

No vibrations felt through steering wheel or gear shift, under acceleration or braking.
Rotors replaced two years ago.
Pads replaced. Calipers are true.

Compression good … for a 240k chassis.
Oil change, oil filter. Still there.

@ 80 kmh
Shift using clutch, from fifth to neutral and coast. Use clutch, back to fifth. No change
Clutch to neutral, engine off. With no power steering it’s all muscles. No change. Engine on, no change.

Gently apply brakes. No change.
Gently now, with the handbrake, no change.
Air con on/off, no change.

Slowly cruise up to 80, or accelerate like a banshee to 80.
Makes no never mind, still that thrumming, louder at 100kmh.

Bonnet is latched correctly.

No, not a knock, a thrum.
Not a tick, whistle, hum, rattle, or bell like sound.

Up on a hoist, no fluid leaks, nothing hanging down, no broken body parts.
Exhaust is tight, no leaks, vibrations …

Weird man.

What have I missed?
Transmission, drive shafts …

Wheel bearings perhaps, check this by jacking up the car and trying to tilt your wheel by grabbing it at the 12 and 6 oclock position and rocking it as hard as you can. A good bearing has zero play. Or alternatively there is a little something happening in the gearbox.

... not the wheel bearings.
First thing I did, was as you described.

I'm now leaning to an issue in the gearbox.
But before I pull things apart, losing bolts, nuts, washers, and my mind in the process, thought I'd start here.

:)

...out on the freeway today, up to 100kmh.
Still there, doesn't get any louder though.

And with that, the noise reminds me of another time, panel van and ute.

The differential.

Ughhh.

Merry Christmas all
