Hey guys,
Recently got my hands on a 2002 Lancer MR CE2 as my first ever car, pretty keen to start putting some work into it (bought it with full catback exhaust and I'm awaiting a CAI from Hens). Only problem I got with it is the flimsy silver plastic front grille, been tryna find a replacement for ages now online but I haven't come across any aftermarket options. Anyone know of any aftermarket grilles which fit? Surely I can't be the only one which thinks it looks ugly...

^ Not my car, but same crappy grille

Hey mate, most people paint them black or go for a Mirage VRX front bar(like mine in the picture) with the other grille type.

Another option is the pre facelift front bar with the slim black 2 bar grill.

Unfortunately aftermarket parts for these are otherwise getting less and less now due to their age, so you’ll probably struggle to find any aftermarket grills unless you make and fit your own.

i reckon if you could find a ruined facelfit mirage bar at the wreckers and shop out the grill with enough meat from the bar around it, it could make for a nice slot in grill that kinda looks aftermaket, leave like 10mm and round if off so it sits over the lancer bumper a bit.

Welcome aboard

Options are a bit limited, but I would definitely recommend going the OEM route with either the facelifted Mirage or pre-facelift lancer front bars as mentioned above. A lot of the aftermarket bars/grilles out there I've seen are pretty ricey in that early 2000s over stylized way. Best reason for OEM is they're generally much cheaper and abundant, if you damage it somehow you aren't losing much and it can be replaced easily.

Speaking from experience as I had an Evo 6 style kit on my first Lancer, fully restored and repainted it and then smashed it going down a ramp a week later, which drove me insane. If you're super pedantic about aesthetics like me, it's best to save yourself that kind of headache.

cheers everyone, I may just end up getting an aftermarket evo style front bar. anyone have a link to a good one?

This is what I had on my old Lancer. It's a fibreglass EVO 6 style bar by Team Jetspeed in Melbourne. Fitment a bit whack because it was a DIY done by the previous owner. Quite expensive as they come unpainted and without hardware to mount it. The extra money would be better spent on other things in my opinion, but it's completely up to you.

Here's a couple links for the same one, looks like they've updated the styling for the coupe a bit.

:hearteyes:definitely something that I'll end up buying in the future, but as you said, $550 would be much better used on perf mods atm.

probably gonna dremel out the silver insides of the grille and replace with some metal mesh. has anyone else done this?
