99 Mirage build

Hi there,

currently in the process of gathering parts together to start a build on my partners mirage
Already been engine swapped with a 4G93 but now we are currently going to fit a 4G94 turbo setup that was pulled from a CG Lancer..
My main struggle at the moment is finding aftermarket performance parts to fit the 4G94

probably has already been talked about lots already but are 4G63 parts able to fit onto the 4G94?
I know some bits and pieces of the 4G93 can fit onto the 94 and vice versa..
Would make life a whole lot easier if I can fit aftermarket parts for a 4G63 onto the 94 as they’re more readily available..

Any advice and help for building the 4G94 would be much appreciated! Anyone else doing something like this or has anyone done this?

Not much off the shelf support for the 4g9x series these days. Unforuntately you can't use 4g63 parts like turbo/ intake manifolds as the bolt holes are in the wrong location.

Businesses like Hens or RPW or LLT racing can help more with sourcing parts specifically for these engines.

What parts are you looking for? And what is your goal with the car?

You may find that the 4g94 turbo setup your have might not fit directly fit on a 4g93. Things like intercooler pipe and exhaust piping will have to be redone.

Well I’ve got an entire 4G94 setup, motor, turbo, intercooler/piping, manifolds etc that I’m going to swap in
I could run it just as is with no problems and itll take a decent amount of power. Just wanting to find mods to support if I were to try for bigger power figure.. such as fuel delivery

have no problems if I need to customise the piping as I can do my own fabrication

Fuel delivery would be the main thing. The other would be rod bolts and headstuds. Need to upgrade it if your going for big power.

I've had both setups very different from each other. One being a stock 4g94 with a T28 running 14 psi which was probably making 150kw.. never had that motor on the dyno but thats usually what you'd expect from it.

The other being my current setup. 4g93 with a Garrett 2860rs running also 14psi making 190kw/330nm. Very minimal timing so has the potential to make over 200kw easily.

Oh right that’s pretty good! Hoping to expect around 200kw
I have a TD05 for it, other thing will be trying to fit the front mount in but I’m sure that won’t be too much of a problem haha
Where did you source your parts for your setup?

I saw your post on the facebooks.
Glad to see @staahnaah replied to you, he’s got the experience of both motors.

I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t use the 94 set up on the 93, they’re virtually identical engines except displacement and a few fittings. Intake pipe from the inter cooler will still run the same, turbo manifold & turbo same deal. From what I remember the 94 has weaker internals, so not as good at handling higher boost unless you build it up for it.

Feel free to search our build threads, check out what we’ve done.

Yeah, I have seen plenty on the similarities between the 94 and 93
But I’ll be removing the 93 completely and putting in the 94
I had the motor sent to get machine and they’ve fitted forged pistons/rods
And have everything else ready to fit as well...
Looked up Hens and they definitely have everything I need to put more power into the motor!
Now I just need to find somewhere to have the motor engineered! Would it be necessary in NSW? Is it terribly expensive? I just don’t want to get ripped off another 2.5k for someone to say yeah it’s cool and safe.. pretty much what happened with my wrx, was eventually told I didn’t need to engineer it hahaha

I got mine engineered by a shop in Narellan about 5 years ago.
I really had no choice to after I got defected for the turbo conversion. The cop picked up on it said... “If these came out turbo when I bought mine, I would have got one myself!” There was no fudging it. LOL
And the cost of the engineering about as much as the fine, so I think it’s worth it. The paper work has got me out of trouble several times since.

So long as your conversion is neat, emissions are good and your brakes and suspension is up to the task, you’ll be fine.
The only thing I had to do to pass was put in a Euro4 cat converter.

You can also run the guantlet and see how long you can get away with it but thats up to you.

This works. But every time you see police I guarantee you will freak out. It’s worse when they sit behind you.

I currently do this with a 4g94 CH Turbo lol.

just to add to the above, if it’s a built g94, the td05 will be fine. Should hold up nicely till the slightly lower rpm redline. Responsive and safe for 200kw no problem.

what TD05 do you have?

I have the the 16G6 9.8T one
That’s sounds pretty good though
Just needing to try find somewhere I can get engineering done at a good price
