Programming a Factory CE Lancer Remote

H
this is how to program the factory remote on a CE lancer or mirage, i've taken this striaght from the factory install manual

Procedure (with at least 1 functional transmitter)

a. Ensure a door is open.
b. Arm then disarm the system.
c. Within 20 seconds of disarming, turn the ignition key from the "OFF" position to the "ACC" position 20 times leaving the key in the "OFF" position after the twentieth turn.
d. The vehicle's indicators will flash 20 times to indicate sucessful entry.
e. Once the indicators have finished flashing press the lock button (channel 1) on each of the transmitters you wish to program.
f. Once finished turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position to lock in and exit from programming mode.

Procedure (without transmitters)
a. Ensure a door is open.
b. Disconnect the negative battery cable, wait 5 seconds then reconnect.
NOTE: If the system begins to sound when power is reconnected then proceed to step (c), otherwise go to step (d).
c. Turn the ignition switch from the "OFF" to "ACC" position 10 times to manually override the alarm, Note: after the tenth turn leave the key in the OFF position and wait for the system to disarm after approximately 10 seconds.
d. Within 20 seconds of disarming, turn the ignition key from the "OFF" position to the "ACC" position 20 times leaving the key in the "OFF" position after the twentieth turn.
e. The vehicle's indicators will flash 20 times to indicate sucessful entry.
f. Once the indicators have finished flashing press the lock button (channel 1)( on each of the transmitters you wish to program.
g. Once finished turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position to lock in and exit from programming mode.

Hey Dopey, I know this is a very long response, but I wanted to say VERY NICE write up indeed. I had to do this about 2 years ago and found this thread, it worked first time. I actually couldn't believe it. When I first read the info you had shared, I thought to myself... pffffttttt this sounds like hes having a laugh with us, as if doing the steps you had mentioned would actually work. I had nothing to loose so I gave it a crack. BOOOM it worked first time like a treat. I totally forgot to thank you for the info. You really saved my backside the day I needed it. I was stuck at a petrol station and the alarm had activated so my horn was cutting sick at 7 in the morning with everyone staring at me. hahahah my initial reaction was pull the horns fuse out. Once doing abit of research I came across this thread and bobs ya uncle it worked :) many thanks.

The reason I remember finally to thank you was because I couldn't remember the steps fully and had to dig this thread up again to program the key fob to my lancer. THANKS BUDDY !!!!

I just bought a (spare) factory remote and followed these instructions. But after several attempts failed to get into programming mode. Anyone got any hints or ideas on how to succeed in getting the CE Lancer into programming mode?

You have to have the timing exact!.
Also the turning of the key needs to be fast and precise. just keep trying and you will get it.

Yes. Got it! Everything must be in QUICK succession.
Instructions are not exactly correct. Give the impression that there is plenty of time to complete.
And a beep is given after each remote is accepted to confirm successful programming.

Factory CE locking? mine doesnt, wouldnt be too hard to hook up a little cheapo alarm horn to the locking relay which outputs the lock/unlock flashes.

Hey has anyone done this lately. Im having problems with the OEM remote that I bought,

I know its an old thread, but im hoping someone has figured how to program a remote.

So the steps that he mentions are the official way unless you happen to have a MUTII/III computer (Mitsubishi dealers tool) and is listed on all aftermarket remote instructions (I have done this to program both a factory and aftermarket remotes to my own car)

The hardest part of doing this is the switching from OFF to ACC needs to be done very quickly and if you go over to ON will screw the entire process up requiring you to start again

Ive already lost count on how may times ive tried it.
Maybe its me?

I went to 2 Dealership and one said its gonna cost about 700-750$ (not even joking)
Other one was 140$.

Ill give it another week, and if it doesnt, heck ill just do the 140$ then.

where did you buy the remote from? and did the car have one that worked to start with?

As you could be wasting time if there is no alarm/central locking module to reprogram (it plugs into the rear of the interior fuse box and trust me is a P.I.T.A to look for and get at

I bought it of Ebay, its an oem remote,

yes my car had a remote to start with, but it just broken,
I have the 01 Lancer Ce Sedan 1.8, from memory i think the 4g93 has the central locking.
i rekon the prevoius owner just had a key done from mister minit.

I actually found the module under the steering wheel, it was a b**** to look for and remove cause i had to restart the module cause the remote thats on it is not working properly.

I seriously dont wanna pay more in this coronavirus period, its already a pandemic on the wallet.

Does everyones car horn beep when locked or unlocked?
You can turn this on or off using a similar procedure to programming a remote:

1. Arm, then disarm the system.

2. Within 20 seconds of disarming, turn the ignition switch from the "OFF" position to the "ACC" position 6 times. Leave the key in the "OFF" position after the sixth turn.

3. Press the lock (arm) button on the transmitter, the indicators will flash six times to confirm the selection has been changed.

4. Check to see if the correct selection has been made. If not, repeat the above steps.

That's word for word from the user manual, hope that helps.

So I need to get one and test it to find out? Or it won’t be compatible if I don’t already have one?

I do have key central locking if that’s any help

They should work, but it needs to be the original Mitsubishi central locking, and you pair a new remote with the car.

I’ll have to pull the lower dash panels off and make sure there’s no aftermarket crap wired up. I’ll buy an OEM key fob and try to program it to the vehicle.

*update

Went to the dealership to get an oem remote program, apparently they said it wont go to programming mode, but the alarm is just dead.

I’d recommend going to some self-pull wreckers, getting under the dash and seeing if you can steal an alarm module from one. You can’t actually purchase the modules anymore, they’re super hard to find.

I bought 2 OEM key fobs off eBay, brand new in original packaging and haven’t had a single issue with them.

Just a quick update: I got under the dash, removed lower dash panel and shoved my phone up behind the steering rack, and found the alarm module.

After purchasing an OEM key fob, I was at a mates house so got him to pull off the negative strap from the battery, then reconnect it.

During the first try, I accidentally went to “On” and had to restart.

Upon second attempt, I went to “Acc” back to “off” 20 times successfully. I was shocked when the blinkers actually flashed 20 times, IT WORKED!

After programming in my key fob, I did the sequence to sound the horn upon lock/unlock.

I’m absolutely stoked with this feature, thanks heaps guys!
