Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap info

Hello All

This is for discussion of swapping control arms and hubs etc, aswell as the effects that is has on wheel track, castor etc.

If you are posting specific information, try to reference your information or back it up with something.

IIRC the front K frame of the FTO is different. Someone correct me otherwise.

But I have really high doubts that the front FTO LCAs are 20mm longer.
If someone has FTO front LCA to take measurements from, I can compare to both Evo 4 and Stock Lancer/Mirage (which I have measured).
There are lots of things that factor into the track of a car.

Hubs may be different,
LCAs may be different,
Subframe may have different mount positions,

Also, Front and Rear wheel track is measured from the centre of the RIM, not the hub. So wheel offsets also affect track, however wheel width does not.
Possibly need to check what offset wheels are used in the wheel track measurements.

I say this only so that its not assumed that "More track = Longer LCAs"

For your information, if you go 5stud with FTO LCA's

Track of Lancer:
Front: 1450mm
Rear: 1460mm

Track of FTO:
Front: 1490mm
Rear: 1485mm
Thanks man
still a bit undecided on the 5 stud swap, probably cant really afford it at the moment. I should be able to afford the parts just not the wheels.
Go Kart should be up for sale soon so things may change ;)

Re: Bryan's sortaflush MR coupé

see i was told fitting fto lca's to my car would give me wider track, then i mentioned it to res i think and apparently thats not true and theson't fit or something? idk but this is a highly debatable topic

Re: Bryan's sortaflush MR coupé

Measure some FTO LCAs and I can tell you, I have CAD drawings of Evo 4 and Lancer LCAs.

Re: Bryan's sortaflush MR coupé

what points do you measure from? might go into pnp sometime later this week if i get a chance and the rain stops

Measure these if you can, you dont need all the measurements, but it helps eliminate errors from measuring, since you can be measuring from arbitray holes etc

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

So would I be better off using some Evo 4 front LCAs rather than the FTO ones?

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

whatever you use at the front use the same rears too so it doesn't make the offsets all weird. i'd go with fto as you'd have access to a greater range of wheels with a higher offset

Why do you have to use the same? That doesn't make much sense. You choose the rims to suit your suspension needs. If you used this method you couldnt use evo parts at the front because the evo rear setup is different because of awd. This would also stop you having a brembo setup.

I am using stock front lower control arms with the fto hubs. Few reasons.

1. FTO LCAs don't have the sway bar end link mounts and the rest of the LCA looks to be identical. I have a picture somewhere I'll dig up.
2. The ball joint bolts up the same
3. Evo 4 LCAs would require you use the evo 4 hub/knuckles assembly which would also require you change calipers as they are 160mm bolt spacing instead of 130mm

my fto lca have the sway bar endlink mount, also i think the fto lca is wider by 10mm

That means you have the Version R LCAs then, which are rare as all hell here. Same setup as a Cyborg Colt. From the above specs there is 5mm difference in track overall which means 2.5mm difference each side. Nothing an alignment can't fix.

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

I love hard to find parts

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

Is there really any difference between ce coupe and evo 4 suspension? If you wanted to would most of it (minus rear diff and shafts) bolt up in the ce??

As I said earlier they have different ball joints, so the hubs have different mounts between them to match. Also the sway bar mounts are different as you can see. Basically if you want to use Evo 4, 5 or 6 control arms you need to use matching hubs and swaybar setup. Where as FTO hubs will bolt onto CE lancer/mirage control arms. Unless you're going to do a full front end swap to evo or fto to be able to run a 23mm front sway bar, there really isn't any point to swapping anything apart from the hubs because it gets too expensive for too little gain.

Trying to find pics but I believe it's fairly different. Haven't compared two side by side, but I think the rear CVs mean that mounts are in different locations.

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

Hmm, I was more thinking for 5 stud/brakes/future awd options ;)

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

If you have the know-how and budget to go AWD in the future, the trailing arm setup is going to be a very minimal cost in comparison to the rest of the setup. Better off doing the FTO swap now if you really want 5 stud, then source an evo rear cut later on when you're ready to go AWD - which will 9 times out of 10 come with the trailing arms anyway. If you have a look how many CEs out there have actually gone through with the AWD conversion it's not many. I've seen 4, maybe 5 in Aus in the 10 years I've been in the lancer/mirage scene. It's no small feat. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it done, but when you can pick up evos for 10k now you really have to ask if it's worth pouring so much money in just to be unique.

^ this.

The main thing is I'd like to prevent pushing the track out anymore for 5 stud.. I'm already chewing tyres from camber already...

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

went to pnp today and measured up the fto lca's, i also did the rears while i was at it.

Re: Wheel Track - Control Arms, Hubs, Trailings Arms swap in

i can tell u the FTO rear LCA is same length as the lancer/rage/proton
if there is any pushing out in the back suspension it is not in the LCA
