In light of me receiving another letter recently about the airbags in my CH, I thought it was time there was a tidy thread for people to find information on their cars. NB; this applies to all Australian models. For anyone concerned, this information can be found on the Recall Website

Currently there are 4 recalls open on the CG/CH model;

Defect/s: "The incorrect brake pedal was fitted to affected vehicles during production"
Affects: "Lancer VR-X (Sedan): Between JMFSNCS7A6U000201 and JMFSRCS7A6U002394. Lancer VR-X (Wagon): Between JMFLNCS7W6U000202 and JMFLRCS7W6U000652"
Action Required: Notification via Letter, or if you have come across this, and your vehicle is in the affected range, contact Mistubishi immediately.
Extra Info: "In the worst case if a brake circuit failure occurs the pedal travel required may be impeded due to interference with an adjacent component. This would prevent the pedal from reaching full stroke and achieving a maximum rate of vehicle retardation."

Defect/s: "The head lamps and/or turn signal lamps turn off, do not turn on or stay on"
Affects: Listed HERE
Action Required: Notification via Letter, or if you notice the fault, contact Mitsubishi immediately.
Extra Info: I actually experienced this fault myself, not a huge deal for most driving conditions, however the fault does get worse from the first time it occurs. Ended up on a 90kph+ stretch of road at midnight and the headlights turned off when I indicated to change lanes, unable to turn them back on. Not fun. This has been mentioned here

Defect/s: Passengers Airbag (Takata 'Beta')
Affects: Vehicles manufactured from 11 June 2003 to 30 December 2008 (CG, CH, CY, CZ & Evo 7-9)
Action Required: Notification via Letter, or if you read this first, contact Mitsubishi.
Extra Info: This is the worldwide recall on Takata bags. Check it out, here. This is a "like for like" replacement; the unit installed is faulty due to ageing & replacing with a similar "new" unit, the airbag is safe for another few years. AL Thread

Defect/s: Passengers Airbag (Takata 'Beta') (Second round)
Affects: Vehicles that have had a "like for like" replacement under the first re-call notice above.
Action Required: Notification via Letter, or if you read this first, contact Mitsubishi.
Extra Info: I'm yet to do this recall myself, however from my understanding for anyone who has had their airbag replaced thus far is open to have their airbag replaced permanently with a new design unit. If anyone has had this done, I'd like to hear any info you've heard.

Thanks for the reply! Your letter explains the situation as I had mostly just guessed from online information. My recall letter made little gramitical sense, and did not explain what would actually be done.

I have had my Takata Airbags final recall replacement done last week, it took about 5 hours as they had a heavy workload that day.

I was fortunate enough to of negotiated with my local dealer to get a courtesy car for the day as I had been messed around previously by them (they didn't connect the original replacement airbag and wouldn't admit to the fault).

Hi Ashes

How did you know the airbag had not been connected? You've planted that little seed of doubt in my head and I'd like to check for myself.

Cheers

Ross

Hi Ross,

I had an airbag warning light come on when I got in it at home the next day (my parents took it to the dealer and picked it up for me) so I plugged my OBD scanner into it and it gave me the info.
So I took it back and made them open it in front of me and there it was, 1 unplugged airbag.

DACIEL AIRBAG.jpg DACIEL AIRBAG.jpg Hi all

Well, I finally got the passenger airbag replaced from the new faulty Takata to the new hopefully don't put holes in your skull Daciel airbag. While I was there I asked about the drivers side airbag and if that was a Takata, and if so when will it be replaced, I don't mean to cast aspersions, but the not so bright young man behind the counter shrugged is shoulders and quite clearly stated "Dunno". Can anone let me know if the drivers side airbag is still the Takata, and if so will it also get replaced.

Cheers

Ross

@Ross Stewart

I wouldnt worry about the drivers airbag - unless they open a recall on it. Its cheaper for corporations not to take chances on this sort of thing haha.

Just had a check of my original wheel, (an early vrx) and it is fitted with a takata unit. I don’t believe these are in the affected range of airbags however. Some steering wheels might have different brand airbags fitted, there’s no way to know without some inside knowledge from someone at Mitsubishi.

Currently have an evo momo wheel in the car, which may have a different brand unit.
