Ralliart driving issue :( my fault

Hello,

Most painful car i've ever driven and i still love it to bits lol. Anyways i was chasing after some punks dipshits who threw a egg at my car and i was coming off a highway to a street a bit to fast and aqua planned straight over the corner of a gutter.

Anyways my left wheel is now with a chip in it(no longer being sold when i upgrade my wheels :( ) and my intial take off and some middle to full lock steering causes a clicking sound evenly between the middle, back and front. I hit this gutter about 20km/h i believe.

I've taken off through all the gears on a straight line and held each gear to red-line(medium throttle) and haven't had a problem so i don't think its the transmission itself however i've been told it could be joints for the whees, driveshaft or diff or possible everything related to them.

Any ideas, im sweating on getting this to a mechanic like peddars to check but is it even safe to drive? I put it in snow mode to relieve some stress from what i think is the back diff.

I've checked the car and found no physical damage underneath

Cheers

Did your front or rear wheel go over the gutter?
You most likely bent something and you will need to take to a suspension shop to diagnose what exactly. When you find out, research what is interchangeable with other Lancers and see if you can source parts from a wreck.

What car were those morons in to be able to get away from a Ralliart???

mazda 2 2002 lol. I was enraged so rather than thinking logical and just hitting it on the straights i decided to hero it through the corner and i'll take the blame for it :) Both wheels went over i was quite lucky the car stopped and didn't go through a fence

You're giving Mitsubishi a bad name! Couldn't catch up to some Mazda 2!
In all seriousness though this is horrible and disgusting behavior by some idiot kids. Did you get a number plate?

nup lol poor effort ey need to play some more dorza. i recognised the sound as sooon as it hit and i was outside in like 30 rearing to make mince meat out of them lol. dont get me to land a plane in a emergency

what!! u need to find those douch bags in da mazda and hurt em  !! & as for ur car my brother did a similar thing. and he had sheared of one of 1 of da bolts at the top of his shocker, but u could only here it tapping wen under brakes... it was hard to find coz it sounded like it was coming from the middle of the car so we thought it was a gear box prob

Man, that sucks.

Guess you just gotta hoist/jack it, and make sure all your bolts are there, and have a look for bends in the control arms etc.

Do it sooner rather than later, as you will be able to spot freshly deformed steel, before the dirt builds up on it.

lol dude, i know the feeling
when my friend decided to moon a passing motorist one day because they called him fat, they swung around to come back for us, but as they did, they slid and hit the gutter pretty hard, they ended up having to call a tow truck lol

but trons idea sounds good, get underneath and check for physical damage, take off the wheel too if that helps and go over it with a fine tooth comb, and maybe turn the steering wheel while the tyres are off to see if you see anything 'unusual' also, check for fluid leaks and stuff, but apart from that take it to a pro for a second opinion

*thanks for all the support guys i thought id get flammed lol*

The egger done a drive by on like everyone in the street, i just was about to go to bed and heard the bang and a car drive past and i distinctly remember the sound from 2 years ago when someone tried that *poo* on my old lancer. Checked underneath with my panel beater mate and theirs like hardly anything just a few scratches, the wheel on the left took a copping with a chip missing but i think its the drivetrain that took the force of it. I got my crazy mate to take it for a drive and it just sounded like every change of power for the wheels that it was clicking pretty much throwing it into every corner and accelerating out of it. Im thinking its either diff or driveshaft but the car managed to go nuts with ASC when my mate was driving it. What ever wheel was off balance in a corner it would click.

I was able to loose traction on the back wheels like it was a rwd thats what its like. If i drive it like a granny i have no problems. I'm going to take it to the mechanic monday hopefully its not the diff's.

Does anyone have prices on ralliart diffs & drive shafts im willing to bet its the diffs becaue thats my run of luck (hit a dip, rear ended, car damaged at dealers, egged then shafted all within 2 months lol). Don't worry I'll find out who done it because they will be stupid enough to do it again just this time i'll follow rather than pursuit. Note to everyone don't drive like a hero when your pissed you aqua plane lol.

It still drives fine other than that its not like it throws me off the road when boost hit and stuff which is positive but i'll minimise driving until i get it looked at

Anyone wanna guestimate based on the above for labour, drive shaft, lsd/s?

souds more like a bearing problem from the wheel i dont think the diffs take dramatic effect rolling out of a driveway in reverse at like 4km and the wheels clickedi pray its that

have no idea compare it to a few photos after the gunk is the damaged wheel and the other one seems normal. I believe its the lubrication for those joints to fit and not heat up but im not expert unforunately lol.

have you checked that you didn't fracture a wheel bolt. take your wheels of and check them

Well the mechanic said lower control arm for around $400 brand new but a bit more work needs to be done. At least it wasn't the diff, he said lucky the wheel didn't fall off lol and their i am doing 8's in a car-park thinking i f***** the diff. Jesus ey. But his checking out all the wheels bearings for all wheels then will make sure no other component is bent, apparently the steering rack appears unaffected otherwise i would have had a huge problem driving it.

I'll let you guys know the end result which should be soon but i'll take it to do some more 8's to make sure it's solid and responding. The mechanic knows his s*** so hard to find one that works with performance cars and doesn't wanna charge like a wounded buffalo.

Good news. I can confirm it was only the lower control arm that was replaced. The wheel bearing is fine however it may wear out faster because of the hit but i will get that replaced when i get wheels.

Total cost= $640 AUD.

I drove it into a carpark and absolutely slammed it for 5 minutes in and out of corners and then drove it along a long windy stretch of road and can confirm that i can ever so slightly hear the wheel bearing and thats it. Other than that, asc works fine, with it off the diffs doing it's dam job and all is good in the world feels so much more responsive in handling than a commodore. What i will say is those yokohamas are absolute rubbish, first time i've driven it hard in and out of corners and it just slides along the rubber.

Thankyou
