Pod filters

Hey guys was considering putting a pod filter on my car and encolsing it in my air box.. Just curious to find out from yous if a pod filter is actually worth getting.
My car is a 98 MR, just got extractors, other than that the engine is stock.

i would suggest just getting a replacement high flow panel filter

i had trouble deciding what to do when i had the old filter thoughts.

pods are only ever a power gain if you do it right. u need to have it enclosed, bracketed (to make it legal) and have a nice cool air flow being fed to it. say... from the front of ur bumper (fog light hole). if u dont have this, u wont get the full potensial from ur pod filter.

i got a K&N panel filter. slips right into the original box, and gives 2-3kw power. you dont need to modify anything to make it fit, or get a cool air flow forced into it to make it work well.

my take on it is i have had 3 pods and 2 pannel filters
all different...
if you dont want to do much work on ur intake and want minor gains get the k&n pannel to replace ur existing
this will probably only get +0.5kws if you dont put a cold air feed to it
with cold air feed it'll get around the 2-3kws idealy

if you end up going with the pod, again get k&n
either have the pod enclosed in a cover or a box, or pipe it down to the front bumper
you MUST pipe a pod to a cold air feed or have it getting cold air
a pod that doesnt have a cold air feed will lose you 1-3kws
a pod with a good cold air feed is worth +1-6kws depending on how well u set it up
the better you set it up the better the gains

btw pod will probably not fit in your stock airbox
and even if it does it wouldnt get a cold air feed there

either way both panel and pod are good options
in the end both the pannel and a pod + setup will cost about the same
the pannel is a quick 1min job for 1kw or a ~1hr job for the 3kws
a pod is a ~2hr job to set it up perfect for a noobie and get 5kws

in conclusion: if your lazy go pannel, if your not and have a bit of pateience and a brain and want that extra bit of power go pod

Personally I love my poddy & wouldn't ever go back to the stock box. One thing I found though is to make sure you water proof it if you run it down into the front.
Btw, I just happen to have a cheap pod 4 sale if you want to tinker & can also hook you up with some shielding for it.

mitsubishi spend allot of time and money to make your filter at the best performance

just get a nice k&n panel filter please.

dude...
they put the snorkle/inlet in the engine bay.... facing sideways
not even forwards....
the botched up the ce intake so bad, sure its probably great for economy dont get me wrong

but if gains is what u want... get a good pod straight up
if you want to keep ur car stock looking then go pannel

Pods arent really ideal for stock cars. Get a panel filter, better gains to be had.

i got a panel filter i would just go with that the 1 reason why im scared about goin with the cold air intake is it sucking up water possibly

Well that'd be the first thing they spent alot of time & money on then, the rest of the car is done as cheap & massed produced as possible.

you can make a good cai that will never suck up water + you would have to be a complete douche to suck up water with most
your average pod is oiled so it resists water, so unless u go thru a massive puddle and im talking MASSIVE deep
then there is no way ur going to get water in your engine

some ppl judge b4 they try
no offence ace23k you have reason to be cautious
but really if ur worried about water... then alter your plan for ur CAI so it doesnt have any risk

dont be a pod hater pplz

Most supercheap and autorice POD brands arent oiled. Generally speaking Calibre, Drift and all the other useless brands are never oiled and must be oiled yourself, the only pod your likely to get PRE oiled is a K&N. If your pod is exposed to water, that is it gets soaking wet or gets splashed blah blah blah and you happen to be at WOT then yes you will suck water in regardless. On the 4g15 not so much a problem, the 4g93 more of a hazard due to the MAF.

im not hating on it i just know people were there pod has sucked water but my mate has one and he neva sucked worked up im jst paranoid i guess.im happy with my panel filter

im just saying if ur pod setup sucks water... then u didnt plan it very well or u need to watch out for puddles better
i have had pods on my car for 2yrs now and never had any troubles with them
