Pod Filters vs Panel Filters for the CE Lancer

I just saw that as I was going to do my own with flexi piping straight from the throttle body down to behind the foggie position and thougt it might be cheaper.
The alternative, I am going to get maybe a 3A racing pod and a cover and then flexi pipe that back to the throttle body.
Any suggestions?

Cheers

I am surprised no one has mentioned heat soak... All depends on what type of pipe work you use will depend on how much the material will hold and retain heat when stopped at the lights or slow speed traffic. They can reduce your performance quite markedly due to the little amount of air flow. It takes a little while for the temps to come back down to a "cooler" temp to be of any benefit to your intake. On the other hand the pipe work does look good and is a hell of a lot smoother than the OEM piping.

As for the filter debate, I am sticking with the stock panel filter. For a 1.5lt motor the filter is quite large. Main thing is the intake pipe work needs smoothing for any benefit. Going to make my own extension on the OEM filter box (CE Rage). Ill add pics in a couple of weeks to my car profile.

this may sound stupid but i bought henrys CAI and i was wondering what exactly i needed to do to secure it to the car

This is my home made amateur jobbie. It don't look the prettiest but it works well.

Hey where did you find the flexi tube? This would work fantastic for my missus' lancer man...Removes the whole hot air thing...Would help with mileage.

buy flex pipe from autobarn

you could even use PVC pipe or any other pipe, there is really no set rules with CAIs except they need to be air tight

Yea i got that. This is my setup in my Festiva. As yall see here its runnin hot air, but the bonnet has been modified to null and void that. There's very little room in my engine bay compared to the lancer.

My current setup in my hatchback.

So autobahn. Hmm okay well that'll help a ton! My missus' CE is running really rough, havin a pod straight off the throttle body seemed like a good idea at the time...All engines are different.

^thats just pods, they are aparently making one for NA at the moment or somethig ike that

a topic not directly covered so far:

i'm going to remove the fog light cover and put a smooth pipe down in behind there. my one question is how to prevent water getting in. obviously i will put mesh over the fog light hole, but should i a) attach the pipe directly to the hole, or b) have it angled down at 45 degrees a couple of inches back, and if i do b) should i then put a separate mesh on the end of the pipe?

cheers

Either option is fine, the pipe will likely travel vertical at some point meaning water will find it very hard to go up that section
Not to mention the water will have to be up to your door sills to get near the pipe

You will however get mist and fine water particals swirling up the pipe, but this is no big deal the filters in our cars are very absorbent and wont let mist and small ammounts of water through, so dont even worry

I have run a setup you described for many years no problems what so ever

I've got my pipe sticking out of the LHS fog light hole, I've had no water issues either.

I also now know why people seem to want to race me too.
It's got massive induction roar, more than I anticipated!
One of my workmates pointed that out to me the other night when we pulled into work.
He could hear it over his car when I was tailing him, hehe.

I've got a flexi pipe to the fog light hole too. Driven head on into torrential rain and when I've got home, took out the filter to see if it was even damp and it was 100% dry, the part of the pipe going into the airbox was also completely dry so yea there's nothing to worry about.

K&N: they have the APOLLO setup to find it for sale search "k&n apollo" on ebay
these are a very good kit
Pro's: + extra power (cold air), + sporty throttle note, + oiled pod, + convertable to short ram if you so choose (lol) keeps filter away from water
Con's price tag (because of the brand)

Anyone had any experience with these ?

Mine being one of -->THESE<-- eBay cheapy's it turns out(good thing I got it next to nothing  ) I was thinking of upgrading in the near future.
When you consider a regular K&N panel filter is usually around the $100 mark anyway, getting the Apollo for a tad more seems like a no brainer.

Anyone got one, had one, loved it, hate it ?

some times cheap is not cheap in the long run. my opinion is spend the money once on something you know will keep you happy. the hens system look like quality and probable have some science behind them to improve performance. i use a k&n panel myself and its okay.not ovrr the top induction noise and a slight improvementvin performance if all you want is induction noise cut the bottom out of your factory air box. sounds great but you will get hot air.

i have one of those carbon ones ARC, they are great for cost, mines a little different, but pretty much the same deal, the appolo is basically the same thing but costs about $200 from memory
i would go with the carbon one, reasons, 1) fully enclosed so u can pipe it to get 100% fresh air which does wonders for power, 2) very compact compared to the stock box, 3) pretty much same size in filter area as the OEM, but more inline for possible better flow

had mine for about 3 years now no problems at all, still flows great, and makes mad intake noise that isnt too loud because the box softens the noise a bit

I was mainly considering the Apollo as I found a guy selling them at almost half price. $110 delivered.
I'm more keen on the Apollo because once the filters life is done, you just get a replacement, where as the CF ones we have are glued in.
So ours are not really replaceable unless you buy a whole new kit.

So thats where my my motivations are coming from.
