Miss Matching VIN 2008 Lancer ES CJ

hi all

so im looking at buying my son a Lancer for his first car about to handover the cash just was waiting on the seller to provide Safety Cert /road worthy cert which is requirement in Qld.

interestingly i noticed on the safety cert the Rego number was incorrect ! and it was for Red lancer not Silver the one i was looking at buying.

It turns out the veh inspection bloke only wrote down the compliance plate VIN which is located on the inside door panel and turns out this VIN number is not matching the stamped VIN on the body of the car infront of drivers seat.

so the VIN compliance plates near front doors are different numbers to hard stamp number on the body of the car !

Generally i would walk away at this point however the seller brought the car new from a dealer and its only had 1 owner I've checked Revs check and nothing comes up regarding car being written off or stolen just wondering if anyone has had similar issues with Mitsubishi Lancer having different VIN plates on 08 or 09 lancers

thanks Scott

Could be a replacement door from accident repair. Years ago I reversed. with a door still ajar which got caught on a brick parapet, replaced.
with a door supposedly new, but I discovered from another wrecked car.

thanks for your reply peregrine when i spoke to Mitsubishi they mentioned it looks like the issue happened at the Dealer prior to selling the car as New to the current owner. The current owner (poor bloke) is only finding out now that his new car wasn't that new when he purchased it
seems a bit dodgy that a dealer would conduct business like this , and unfortunately it wasn't picked up when the bloke brought his new car that the door panel compliance plates didn't match the stamped VIN on the floor panel
interestingly rego papers VIN is the stamped number on floor plate but doesn't match the door panel compliance plates

Mitsubishi are currently reviewing the info and looking to send out a compliance letter to the owner
