Just got a 1997 CE Mirage... Question(s)?

My step-son just gave us his old CE mirage as a early christmas present.

It has "SRS Airbag" on the steering wheel but no SRS light is coming on when the ignition is turned to 'on'.

Went looking for a SRS controller in the centre console area but can't find anything remotely looking like it.

Can I assume it's been "fudged" and there is no active airbag in this vehicle?

I think that steering wheel has been swapped in there.
You can confirm this by removing the airbag and checking if it is connected its only 1 or 2 screws .

The mirage definitely didn't come with that wheel as stock, I'd assume it has no airbag or at the very least the airbag is in there but unusable.

If you're worried about safety, I wouldn't bother. Airbags hurt. I've walked away from 100km/h crashes without airbags, but got punched in the face by them at 40km/h too many times. I'd take no wheel airbag any day lol

I think that steering wheel has been swapped in there.

I'm thinking that also. I'll remove the airbag tomorrow and do the airbag safety routine ie. disconnect battery.

The horn does not work also so maybe it ties in with this.

Also, am I missing anything from this fuse/relay box in the engine compartment?

If you're worried about safety,

I'm not concerned about accident safety more about random deployment. Although I have read that these bags self-short when disconnected. However, who knows what 'mods' have been done till I look. As they say in the aircraft industry.. "History Unknown".

Other issues are horn not working, clock not working, intermittent wiper not working, water dripping from blower during rain. And more a personal thing, the wiring for the radio looking like a dogs breakfast.

horn is probably not connected properly. might not have a clockspring. can be an easy fix

in some ce's its missing and the horn works. theres some reasoning behind it but i cant remember of the top of my head. henry knows the answer

they're factory splices, your Airbag wheel won't work on the car as is seems it's a car without SRS so there will be no slip rig on the back of that wheel for it to work with that car

Ok, from reading...

There are three steering wheels this car came with.

2 - spoke no airbag. Just pull on the centre to pop the horn pad out.

3 - spoke no airbag. Single screw in bottom spoke releases horn pad.

3 - spoke with airbag. Torx screw in side spokes releases horn pad/airbag.

The no airbag wheels have a ring which sits up against a spring loaded pin that is the electrical path for the horn.

The airbag wheels use a clock spring mechanism for both airbag and horn. Possibly due to low current/high resistance of the clock spring an additional horn relay is used, located on the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment.

What is the typical cost of a steering wheel from a wrecker? I've seen one advertised for about $130.

Why not just disconnect the igniter on the back of the steering wheel and connect the horn wiring. 3 some wheels are much nicer to drive with.

Otherwise look for a fto steering wheel. They are nicer and bolt straight in
