Engine light; oxy sensor

Hey all, engine light came on a few weeks back before a trip to Sydney. I disconnected battery negative and reset the light.

About 2000k's later, it's come back on this morning, put MUT on it today and DTC for oxygen sensor (front) came up. deleted DTC's and light stayed on.
Planning on just replacing it (maybe from wreck, seeing as new will set me back a fair bit of $$).
Just wondering if anyone here has run into the same problem, or know/worked on a car that has.
I'm thinking of doing a contact clean on the sensor and the connector, see if this will clear it up for a bit, unless the sensors too far gone.

Any help appreciated, and if anyone's had the same issue and the sensor didn't fix it, let me know.
cheers

Would replace it new. 2nd hand sensors are never a good thing.

No rush, just leave it until you have the cash. o2 sensor is useless anyway in CH's

yeah figured it was, felt/heard no difference in performance. thought it must've just been a sensor for ADR's sake

I realise this is a really old threat - however I had the same problem in my CH. I replaced the sensor and deleted the error code about 2000k's ago and the light came on again tonight. I have checked all obvious things (coolant etc) with no issues there and the car had no drop or change in performance whatsoever.

Apart from the actual replacement part being a dud - is there anything else i should check before buying a new sensor.. again?

Cheers.

Chuck a scan tool on it to make sure it's definitely the O2 sensor. MUT has measured values so you can check if the fuel consumption is consistent with factory spec. If you bought a 2nd hand or non-gen sensor chances are it's indeed the sensor. Also the rear O2 sensor tends to be very sensitive to voltage. Mines going on about 5000kms and still no light so i'm hoping it stays that way! haha

well my wifes engine light came out. plugged the scanner in and error code P0135 code came up (Front O2 Heater Circuit Malfunction)

anyway i reset it...and it came back on pretty much straight away. Few phone calls later, since i could not find a denso oxygen sensor, i bought a NGK / NTK sensor OZA668-EE55 from repco $165 . you can find it on ebay for about $130 but i couldnt wait.
anyway couple of weeks so far, and fingers crossed, car has been running fine, no check engine light at all.

anyway has anyone else used ngk / ntk sensors in the lancer? any differences etc etc.

Ngk is a reputable brand better know for spark plugs. But still good.

well mine came on about 250klm after the rebuild, car runs perfectly and this is not the first time I have had a CH that has had this light come on and to be totally honest with you all I am in no hurry to go out and buy another O2 sensor or even try to find out what the cause is, the car is magic to drive - unless it goes into limp mode then I will look closer at it.

I've also got a CEL on my 06 Es ch 2.4. I'm thinking of replacing the o2 sensor/s just as preventative maintenance and also hopefully clear the CEL.

I only just bought the car, and it has 140k's. Is it likely to be the o2 sensor up the front on the exhaust manifold ? According to the previous owner the CEL appeared when he had the timing belt changed and never went out (30,000 k's ago).

How many o2 sensors do these things have ?

usually 2 if there's a CAT - one on the manifold and one after the CAT. Mine stayed off after i replaced it. I'd get it scanned hungie and see what it is, but usually is O2. CH shouldn't go into limp mode from it so she'll be sweet even if you leave it!

Hello Jay

CPR to an old thread.... Could you tell me where the second o2 sensor is? I know you said after the cat, but I crawled under the 4G69 CH Wagon and couldn't find it... And I was totally sober at the time..

Not the best picture, but this might help

In the red section, just before the cat near the hangers is the second 02 sensor on a 4g69 sedan. Assuming its the same as a wagon. The first sensor is before the first cat in the exhaust manifold.

You are a bloody legend:sunglasses:
Thank you so much. I'll jack Sir Lancerlot (My wife named the car, not me) this weekend and check it out. I'll let you know how I go.

Cheers

G'Day SDate

Mate, thank you for your advice... I couldn't get the stands to get right under the car safely so I haven't actually got to it yet, in saying that, since I replied the CEL light has gone off and has stayed off since the weekend after your post. Hoping it stays off, but if not at least I have your advice to fall back onto.

Cheers

Ross
