Electronic power steering conversation?

Hey just wondering if anyone has done an electronic power steering conversation on a ce lancer? Or know of any information on how to go about doing so or even parts required?

I don’t know of anyone who has done it recently and documented on here. I can however mention the basics and my personal input.
You will need a pump, reservoir, new lines with correct fittings.
Power supply.
Further, removal of the old pump and belt.
Optional alternator and battery upgrade.

Personally I like the idea of a TS astra pump. These have the reservoir inbuilt and are neat/compact and the pressure output is feasible for use in a CE. This means you simply run a high and low pressure line from the unit to the rack.

For powering, the most basic option is to run the pump flat out on ignition. You could add in a steering angle and or pressure sensor to dictate running time of the pump.

further consider the electrical load of a pump. The astra pump can draw up to 80amps iirc, which is roughly the output of a CE alternator.

What is your reason for EPS conversion?

Wanting to remove power steer and a/c completely for weight reduction and minor power gains while being paired with an underdrive harmonic balancer but still wanting it to be a somewhat pleasant daily driver

go the astra pump. It’ll cost you $100 clean for a pump posted to your door and about the same for two lines to be made. Need fo make a mounting bracket, and about $15 worth of wiring and relay with a neat socket. Sub $250. And you can sell it all if it doesnt suit

Have been looking into it a lot and is seeming very doable, if mounted close to the existing steering rack do you think you could get away with a 1-2ft high pressure hose between the two? and will look into the best way to wire it into the system and relay direction etc. If anyone knows electrical diagramming it would be awesome for a hand on how it should be wired here's a link to what wires are involved with the pump

1-2ft would be fine - just be sure you have room to mount the pump assembly. As for wiring, use 8gauge for the power (red) straight to battery positive. The thick brown to body earth with 8gauge also. Join the smaller brown and blue wires from the pump together, then to (87) the load side of an N/O relay. 30 on the relay to constant power (fused). 86 and 85 should be connected fused inline to an ignition only power source, like the cigarette lighter socket.

Thank you so much! You are full of such useful knowledge! As soon as I have everything and get it put together I'll let you know, Thank you again for all of the guidance and helpful information which may also help others along the way to convert there vehicles
