Do you need new struts for lowering springs?

Hi all, im new in the group.
Ive had my CE Lancer for 8months now,
Ive changed the wheels to 17” and are wrapped on 215/40 tires.

Im in Melbourne, and have found a shop that will do BC Coilovers with installation for 1700$.
But now i have decided that i will lower the car with lowering springs since im not even gonna track the car.
I just dont have enough knowledge with lowering springs.

Now my question is will i need to change struts for the lowering springs? What are good brand for springs?
If i will be changing the struts will the cost near as having coilovers?

Im not planning to get the car suuuuuuper low,
but it would be nice if i could get the front and rear end to be the same fitment.
i know coilovers are the way to go. But its just expensive.
Id be happy to do coilovers if someone will enlighten me that the cost of me doing
lowering springs will be close as having coilovers.

Cheers for the advise.

Lowered Springs should be paired with a shortened/sport shock absorber. If not, the lower height (precompressed) shock will wear much faster than how an OEM height spring would cause it to.

A set of top brand lowered springs and shock combo would be able the same price as entry level coilovers, so a budget spring and shock combo should be only a few hundred bucks

Are BC Coilovers considered as entry level?
Or there are other brands that is a bit cheaper? Most of the people/shop that i have went to are recommending BC and MCA’s.

Mates of mine are telling me to just grab ebay ones, but im not compromising the quality just to go cheap. But paying a bit less would hurt a bit on the wallet right?

BC are entry-mid level, MCA are mid-high level. You'll find no-name brand adjustable coilovers on ebay for like $400, but you'll get what you pay for. Cost, Quality, Reliability, pick two lol.

IMO, best bang for buck for adjustable coilovers is the entry level BC coilovers - $1100~, an hour or two for DIY installation, and then a $80 wheel alignment and you'll be sweet.

Now youve talked me into it, i am just wondering where you could buy the BC Coilovers for 1100?
And is there a certain type of model of the coilovers?

Here in Melbs, ive checked the prices its about 1300-1400. Even hens is like 1300+.

Hmm checking myself they are around 1299+. Ive had mine for like 5 or 6 years so id assume price went up.

Try PMing @Hens or @YEZZZ , as either should be able to source them for about the same or maybe a fraction cheaper than RRP on BC's website. I got my BC Golds for the price of the Reds, but again that was a number of years ago.

Thank you very much Mate,

I thought the prices would depreciate, lol

Well im gonna check them out coz im planning to get the suspension done by Feb.

@donki Mate if you could enlighten me about coilovers. Im going with coilovers now, but im planning to buy 2nd hand, ive already found one and the brand is D2 Racing Coilovers, it does say it fits a lancer/mirage 01-07. It came from a Lancer coupe . Will it fit? And is it a good idea? Atleast its not evay coilovers tho.

This are the coilovers by the way, if it helps.

Not 100% sure. i would assume it would be fine if they are originally from a CE Couple. D2 Racing is still on the budget side, but i think at least a couple blokes have run them before, i think maybe @rigby did in his CC
