How to remove your entire dashboard, steering wheel, and a/c controls from your CC Lancer (should apply 95% to CE Lancers)

What you will need:

Socket set - 10mm/14mm/17mm
Philips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
Patience

Dash Removal + Steering Wheel Removal

Step One: Start by taking out all the smaller panels such as speaker grills, glovebox, fascia, cd player, cluster shroud, cluster etc. If you don't know how to do any of these, shame on you. Look up my other DIY's on removing these things.

Step Two: You will also need to remove your shifter cover and either pull back or remove your centre console (probably easier to just remove it but not 100% necessary).

Step Three: To remove your steering wheel, peel off the vinyl horn cover to reveal two screws in a plastic cover. Undo them both, then pull off the horn cover and unclip the horn cable. There will then be a big 17mm nut in the centre, turn your wheel until it locks into place (will help you with getting enough torque on the nut) then undo that bad boy. Only loosen it about 1/4 of the way, then pull your steering wheel off. Having the nut still attached will stop the steering wheel from smacking you in the face as it's probably never been off before and will be stuck on really hard. Once you've pulled it loose, undo the nut all the way and take the wheel off.

Step Four: Take the steering column plastic off. There are 3 bolts underneath, two beside each other and one up a really long hole further down the column. Flick down your wheel height adjustment and pull the plastics off. Then pull your indicator assembly off. Should be three big gold bolts around the outside (two down the bottom and one in the centre at the top). Unplug the cables from the back and pull it off.

Step Five: There are a couple 10mm bolts holding your dash on now (about 5 or so). Two are at the bottom corners of the dash, and there is one behind each of the top air vents. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the vent up and out, then you will need a long-ass extension to reach the 10mm bolts at the back of where the vents were.

Step Six: Behind your cluster there is one big brown plug and one big blue plug. Pinch the sides and pull them out towards you, then push them back through the holes they left in the dash. You now need to undo your speedo cable. Pop the bonnet, look on the firewall for a small cable running out relative to where the cluster should be in the dash. Follow it down to the gearbox, then twist it off like a bottle cap (it's under the big hose in the picture). Pull it out.

You then need to go back to the dash and pull the white plug out from the middle. Pinch the sides and pull. You then need to take the body of it off of the cable itself. You'll be able to spin the thickest part of the cable around, that's what needs to come off. You do this by pushing it down the cable and it will fall off.

Step Seven: Make sure everything is unplugged and all necessary bolts are out (give your dash a shake and where it won't move, you probably have a bolt still around there somewhere). There are also two big-ass white plugs in the drivers footwell above the fuse box which will need to be unplugged too (as they are part of your upper dash loom). Pull your dash out and over the gear stick, then out of the car.

Step Eight: Do the reversal of these steps to put the dash back in (REMEMBER TO RE-ATTACH THE DAMN SPEEDO CABLE)

A/C Control Unit Removal

Step One: Undo the two screws at the top holding it in place. Unclip any plugs that are attached to it as well.

Step Two: It is held in at the sides, so you will need to undo one side of the metal frame holding it in and pull it back so you can pop one side of the unit out.

Step Three: There are like 4 cables coming out the back of it, easiest to pull them off at their end locations instead of pulling them off the unit itself. One heads down the passengers side behind the glovebox. Another straight ahead of you and another around the drivers side. Here are pics for reference:

Step Four: After you unclip them, swap the units over or do whatever you wanted to do with it (now is a good idea to change the bulbs in it if they are blown or something). Then do the reversal of these steps to put it back in.

rigby's wheel is weird compared to other cc lancers here's how mine came off

pull on the upper section of the horn this will pop 2 plastic clips.

from here the horn plate will flex enough to reveal the horn button positive lead.
disconnect it

now look behind the horn plate you will see a folded piece of metal the the horn plate slips down onto use a long screwdriver to prize this metal fold toward the rear of the car while at the same time pulling the hon cover toward the roof it should slip off easily enough. once it slips off you have access to the 17mm nut
