Cluster with Tacho wiring

Here are a few more pictures to help fellow members.....

In a nutshell, you need to connect ECU pin 58 (smallest of the four ECU plugs) OR Blue connector in the engine bay to dash connector pin 3 (vertical connector on the LHS).

Then connect Ground to dash connector pin 4.

Done.

Back of cluster, you only need to worry about the vertical connector (AUTO and Manual circuit boards are IDENTICAL)...

Dash connector, sorry don't have picture of actual connector, but it is BLUE VERTICAL 24 pin one...

please do but I have an earth... and pin 58 has no pulse" - jxe63.
My 99 mirage also had nothing on pin 58 there where 3 wires in that particular ecu plug but the colours where all different to and diagrams or guides i have found i had a spare ecu plug when i removed one of the fittings and put into my cars ecu pin 58 nothing happened
so i used a spade plug to the blue fitting in the engine bay and worked properly.
Its also worth mentioning the blue fitting in the engine bay of my car only had the one white wire not a white and a black wire like most of the ones pictured so if you have the two wires on your blue fitting you may need to splice into the white one only.

Also my 1.5 mirage seems to be raving its head off at just above the 4000rpm Mark no where near the 6000rpm redline is this normal for a a 1.5 or is my tacho out of wack ?h

take your car to the limiter to check. it should limit at about 7.2k rpm. if its limiting lower its wrong.

To all offering advice - and especially skaiffe25 & Selaga for photo's - a HUGE thank you !

After a long break & headsache with the prospect of smashing the damn tacho gauges to pieces, I had a final attempt today.

Did nothing different than on other occasions - BUT THE DAMN THING WORKED...

Problem may have been the connection to pin 58 as was hard to find a connector that small but somehow it all fell into place..

Be finished and registered Monday...

Yippeeeee !

Another question I have is what is the best way to have your original km's on the new (2nd hand) dash?

Will the non tacho speedo swap out into the tacho dash? or is there something that can be swapped out internally?

speedometer in the centre can swap out. another way is to reprogram the eprom chip or whatever its called

I've got a 2001 lancer and I've put the mr cluster in connected the wire from the engine bay to pin 3 and an earth to pin 4 but still the tacho doesn't work. Any ideas??

Pin 58 on the small ecu plug is the tach signal. Run a cable from there to the tach signal on the back of the cluster.
Then just run a cable from the tacho earth screw to some bare metal behind the cluster.

Alternatively, if you have an MR dash loom installed all you need to do is run 2 short cables from pins 58 and tach earth(will be 57 or 59, can't remember) to the start of the MR loom.

Use the search bar to find the ecu pinout diagram to locate the two pins for tacho signal/earth.
