Cluster with Tacho wiring

hey guys

I know this has been posted before.

I got a MR cluster, one with tacho and I want to wire it up to my CE 1.5 GLi.

Ive read theres this blue pin I need to wire it to in the engine bay, etc. I found that wire with the blue pin head. But I dont know what type of wire/connector do I need to use and where can i find it from?

Mind you, I am completely noob with these things, and I dont know how to ground a wire or anything :(

Is there someone kind enough from Western Sydney (Parramatta area) willing to give me a hand doing this?

Its heart breaking driving around with the MR cluster but tacho not working :(

Hey guys

Can someone confirm if a MR cluster would work on a 1.5L GLi?

Someone said it wont read the RPM properly. But I remember reading on the old MLGA forums that this can be solved by getting the signal from the ECU (or something like that)

Can anyone confirm, give more info out? Please!

Im sure someone knows.

If it doesnt work, how do people put Evo clusters into normal Lancers and they seem to work fine?

it works after you wire it up

test it on it first as the loom may already be there, if not wire up the rpm signal... google is your friend

the evo one goes into a 1.8l because it already has the taco working. not sure about the 1.5l non taco one. PM Res

So the 1.8L cluster will work properly if I wire it up?

I am still trying to figure out how to wire it. I read some info but I havent tried yet as i am complety noob when it comes to these things.

So just wiring it up to that blue wire in the engine bay is fine? No need to get anything from the ECU?

Any tutorials or guides would be most appreciated. I wish I can find that thread on the old MLGA forums before it got hacked :(

Thanks for the reply guys

evo 4-5-6, MR, Glxi, GLi and the Mivec clusters will all work in place of your old one as far as i know
all that needs doing is the wiring which i have no idea how to do. tron is wiring up his CC one at the moment, wont be exactly the same but it could give you some ideas

Oh ok, How can i get to Tron to ask him?

I already installed the MR cluster and everything works except for Tacho. I hope this gets sorted out and works properly when I wire it up.

If anyone has anymore info, please share it :)

Thanks Res for your reply :)

So threw the tacho cluster in and everything works except the handbrake light and the tacho gauge.

According to this bloke.

I just have to wire into where it says TM earth and TM (Crazy symbols)

The bit Im not sure on is where he wired to into the engine bay, from my readings wiring into the ECU tacho pinout would be easier. Except i don't know which pin that is lol

Thanks for that Res

Another extremely noob question. How do I get to the ECU on my CE?

I have no idea where it is

go to passenger door, look under glove box and then slightly up and towards the passenger door... its a box with a bajillion wires going to it
the rest is up to you, i have never taken out the passenger side of the dash, but from what i have seen its easy enuf, start with the glove box to get better access

How did you go with it mate? I've just been completely over the wiring in the missus lancer after fitting a 6a12 into it and also fitting the fto dash into it.
Her car was a 1.5l and it had the tacho dash in it already. But from what i can tell all the ce lancer's are wired up with the same dash loom. If needed i can find out the pin no. and colour of the wire out of the ecu as i have the factory wiring diagrams here at present could probably also tell you what pin and plug it goes into on the lancer dash side of things.

Hey
Sorry for the late reply

but its all wired up and working now. Me and a friend managed to get it working. the RPM signal is pin 58 on the ECU. We ran a wire from there to the back of the cluster, and a ground wire to the back of the cluster too.

And started the car and tacho was working :)

It was pretty straight forward and worked first go

Thanks everyone for your replies. :)

Hi All,

I have 3 Mitsubishi's.. a CC Lancer coupe; a CJ Mitsubishi Lancer VRX & a CE Lancer coupe.

I am now fixing up the CE - and got a factory Tacho / dash assy.. I have followed numerous guides and whilst I have the wires correctly to the gauges via the plug behind the gauges, I am stuck with the RPM source. The previous owner had an aftermarket tacho setup but this source is intermittent with the needle going spastic.. There is a constant power from the plug on the ride side of the engine bay firewall & when tapped into for the tacho - nothing.. There is NO pulse from pin 58 on the ECU..

What can I do now ?

thanks

sounds like you havent run the ground. on the factory cluster there is a point that says "Tacho earth" or something like that. i wired that to the same earth point as the stereo and BAM it worked for me. hopefully that helps :)

I got earth into the 4th pin down on the blue plug at the rear - as per instructions on another site.. You saying I need another ?

so have u run two wires? pretty much for the tacho to work u need a source (from the ecu, pin 58) and an earth, which i know can be found on the ecu on pin59 i think (dont quote me) or just run it to any earth point on the car.if you want ill post a pic of exactly what i did with my car to get it to work
