Cigarette Lighter No Power

Hi guys,

I was un/plugging devices into my cigarette lighter socket and it stopped supplying power. The devices had previously worked in the Lancer & still work in another car.

The 15amp fuse under the steering wheel looks intact.

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks.

Youll need a multimeter and some patience.

Put the probes across the socket - check for 12V
If 12V there, problem is with your device.

If no 12V, find a good Earth on the body or battery (seat rail should be fine) and check for 12V across that and test continuity of the Earth.

If 12V across the socket and a known good earth, youll need to trace the break in the earth circuit.

If no 12V and Earth has continuity, unplug power supply wire and test there. Trace wire back to fuse box. Should find the fault along the way. Check all connections.

If no 12v and no continuity, a plug connector on the cig circuit has come loose or its been cut open by something. Unlikey.

Best to check continuity across the fuse when its out, if in doubt, just replace. You may need to check more than one fuse, it may even be in the engine bay.
