Howdy, my brother has a 2003 CH 4G94 2.0 litre Lancer that is surging and is down on power all of a sudden, I’m pretty sure I heard it pinging when I was passenger the other day load up a small hill, i haven’t driven it myself but plan on replacing the fuel pump and filter, plugs and coil packs as preventative maintenance anyways and hope it fixes the problem, anything else I should be considering given the symptoms?

Also, how do you extract any CEL codes from this vintage Lancer?

thanks

Hey mate, hard to tell over the Internet. Does the car sound really hollow or deep and run rough, or is it just low on power?

the codes are readable easily with a standard scanner. If youre in sydney I can help out with this

it is down in power but seems to get worse as it warms up, it’s bucking and surging like a winner and barely drivable when it is playing up, just did plugs and coil packs and no change, will do fuel pump and report back

thanks but I’m in Adelaide, I have a jaycar OBD2 Bluetooth code reader, will it work or does it need to be a Snap on or similar scan tool?

You might have success, give it a shot. The car isnt strictly ODB2 compliment, but you dont need to spend thousands to talk to it. I have a tactrix for tuning and logging and also a Foxwell NT301 which works a treat.

if plugs and coils didnt sort it, I’d look at airflow faults.

Well, did the fuel pump aswell and no chop, still doing the same, basically off idle it has no power at all and stumbles, going to look at vacuum and airflow I think now and check for codes, ta
