CG/CH Rear Sway Bar

Hey guys,
Was wondering if anyone here has installed a rear sway bar on their CG/CH Lancer? I've bought a Whiteline one and its says it's a direct replacement. Problem being that I never had one to begin with. The seller is suggesting I should have mounting brackets on the car already, but I don't (my lancer is a CG LS). Was thinking of going to the wreckers to get some, but wanted to know which model CG/CH would have them from stock? I was thinking the VRX?
If anyone knows where I can get some aftermarket, I'd be interested too!
Thanks

I can confirm for you that the VRX comes stock with a rear sway bar...not sure where you would get after market brackets though, try wholesale suspension or something

I did this install on my cg and it makes a big difference. Where did you get the sway bar? If u bought it from a shop take it back. There are 2 options from whiteline, 1 is a replacement and the other is for cars without one standard. That is the one you need. Comes with mounting brackets in the kit.

If you have no luck returning it, then try contacting Whiteline direct and see if they can help you out and sell the additional parts to you.....

Hey everyone, thanks for all of your help / responses! They've definately given me an idea of where to begin looking :)

Ian/Ryan, I bought the sway bar through Shawn of Phillcom Rally here in SA and he got it from Whiteline. When we realised that I had no mounts, Shawn went back to Whiteline to confirm that the particular sway bar I recieved was the only one I could get. Might be worth it if I contact Whiteline direct myself as I would love to eventually put it on there :)

I'm posting this for anyone wanting to know this info.

RE: Website Enquiry‏

Hi,

Under par the part description and in our catalogue it states for models with OE sway bars meaning this will only fit if you had an OE sway bar from factory.

We do not have a kit to fit the models that did not have factory OE sway bar.

RE: 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer CG LS – Rear Sway Bar

Hi,

Recently I bought a Whiteline rear sway bar (part number BMR79) for my 2003 CG Lancer. I purchased the part through a Whiteline dealer in South Australia.
The part is listed on your website as a direct replacement and I have found that only the VRX in the CG model has an OEM rear sway bar, not the LS model.
Does your company supply a mounting bracket kit for the rear sway bar to install on the LS model? If so, could I please have a price and part number?

Thanks

hmmm interesting, I just checked out their website and yeah it looks like they only have the one for the OEM replacement sway bar. When I did mine there was two options, so in the last couple of years they may have canned the part you need.

I just did a quick search and found this in America, not sure how much postage would be but might be worth enquiring with the dollar being so good. Its got the mounts pictured that you'll need for your car, and theyre pretty much the same I had in my whiteline kit:

$425.61 is the quoted price for shipping alone..... might be worth trying a wrecker!!!

Oh Ian that's excellent! Thanks for posting that up. At least now I know what part I'm looking at.

Thanks for getting the pricing Ryan, hopefully I'll be taking a trip to the local wreckers on Sat morning to investigate.

Also, heard by word of mouth that Whiteline are slowly phasing out parts, which must be why the mounting kit isn't available anymore.

Yeah most companies will phase out parts that dont sell particularly well.

I had a look around and saw a couple of evo 7,8,9 sway bar mounts on ebay in US for sale, the base sort of looks like its the same, but wouldnt have any idea if the link bit will line up. Might be an idea as said earlier to head down to a wrecker and see if you can find some cheap parts of a vrx or evo and see if they work

Sat I went to the wreckers. Asked for the mounts. They didn't have any of the brackets but gave me two long bolts with bushes from a CE lancer (they're the same for the CG) $20, bought some Nolathane bushes to replace the old onces $40, got the other half under my car making up brackets and such (no cost - just had to remove interior parts from his project CC lancer in return). I notice the difference heaps, although I will attempt to actually find the proper mounting brackets. Interesting through, i was given the job of lubing up the sway bar bushes. Such a strange feeling lol

I'm feeling a lot more confident! I have some camber bolts to stick on the front - only putting a slight camber on. That will be the next task... But driving to and from work this week, I haven't really had many chances to test it out further. Will do when I go for a drive in the hills on the weekend :D Still absolutely pleased with the end result! The best improvement on the car so far!

if ur keen on making the back feel even more awsomely controlled get a rear strutbrace, got mine and it really adds to the sway bar's control over the back of the car, and even stiffer
then u can chuck the maddest rear slides in the wet
