CE Lancer ECU tuning

I just wacked a POD on my CE Lancer and it's running uber rich, if plastic ecu, how can I tell?

If it's running rich? Black smoke on WOT, exhaust stains on the ground in startup from unburned fuel, crap economy. Orrr just whack the stocko box back on.

Richness would be caused by one or more failing parts. Probably the pod filter. If you put the airbox back on does it run as normal? If it's a toss up between power loss and economy loss for the sake of intake noise, doesn't seem worth it.

Would it be much of an economy loss?

How do I tell if my 1999 MR has a black plastic ecu?

Easiest way dude is to have a look.
Up behind the passenger side kick panel, Maybe remove your glove box if you cant see it.

I've always been curious about this. i have a evo ecu in the garage and a tactrix cable too just never had the time to play with it.

i think the evo ecu i have is plug in but need one of the programing lines wired up as my original ecu is a steel case non programable unit.

if anyone has an idea how to get this to work I'm happy to use my car as a test mule.

Tronda I think attempted to use one of these but I forgot if they had success. If yours came with a metal case it may be unlikely that you have the obd plug under your steering wheel, but have a look

update:
i have both connectors, yay, but the reflash connector wire does not make it back to the ecu. at least not to pin 79 where the evo ecu is expecting it. :(

now the question is will the evo ecu just plug in without any pin changes?
other then the reflash pin of course.

You could try searching for 4G63 DIY conversions that will state whether the wiring loom needs changing.
To be honest I would expect at least some degree of adapting the wiring loom

all the main wires eg. ignition, injectors, cam, crank, flow meter, fuel pump, idle speed control are the same. some other items like waste gate solenoid are new and other items like egr(which i don't have) is for the evos air injection anti lag.

so looks simple enough

Send @donki a message, he's just left for overseas but he might remember the difference. I think we looked at them for a while but decided other avenues were easier

yeah but for the budget turbo guys a reflash tune would be great. i would have loved it on my first setup.

I'm also curious to see if the evo ecu works. I've got a cm5a in my car with supporting looms. When we fixed the wiring it looks as though fuel and spark wires were around the other way. Other than looked the same as evo 5 whether they have changed anything to evo 6 I'm not sure. Keep us posted if you have any luck. Would be great to use the evo ecu and have dual map etc
