CE acceleration problem

Hello lancer brains trust. My stock 2000 1.8 CE auto (124K odo) has an intermittent problem accelerating at low engine rpm. The issue is most felt when accelerating from a rolling start (2nd gear). Splutters until revs are up a bit then fine. Seems to be getting slowly worse. I have a replacement fuel filter to install, but as engine runs fine at higher rpm I don't think that is the problem. Injector cleaner with fuel for the last few months has had no effect. Runs on ULP 91. Could be lots of things from coil packs, plugs, throttle body, or just a sensor. Any idea's?

I've had a similar problem in a 1.8 manual. Changed the fuel filter and the problem went away.

You can check if its the coil packs if you have the car running and disconnect them one by one. If you disconnect one and the engine starts running weird then its not a coil pack.

Spark plugs you should check when you service it. Check the gaps and how they look. You can find on the internet how to tell if a spark plug is normal.

Id check the spark plugs for anything abnormal then change the fuel filter.

Thank-you.
Did a plug change. Old ones were original and worn out. Cleaned the oil off a plug socket and runs great again. Found out the fuel filter was changed when the timing belt was done at 104k. Has 124k on it now.

1.8 Lancers can be a little temperamental when things get dirty.

Always good to check or replace the basics like plugs & fuel filter, clean your throttle body and MAF. Anything outside of that requires a bit more digging.

For me it's the MAP on my 1.5L, was sputtering on low RPM. the 1.8 uses MAF, it's a good idea to spend more time around there

I just had the same issue and it was my leads. Replaced them and spark plugs while I was at it.
